Gov’t allocates EGP 4.4 in public investments for Minya governorate in FY 22/23: Minister of Planning

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development announced, in a report issued on Thursday the features of the Citizen’s Investment Plan for Minya Governorate for the year 2023/22.
The ministry’s announcement came within the framework of the Egyptian government’s endless efforts to announce the Citizen Investment Plan in all of Egypt’s governorates. This was done for the fourth year in a row.
The announcement also aims to educate citizens about the directions and priorities of the sustainable development plan for the fiscal year (2023/22), and its role in achieving "Egypt's Vision 2030".
H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, said that the sustainable development plan for the fiscal year 2023/22 pays special attention to spatial policies and programs aimed at achieving convergence in living standards and incomes between regions by addressing existing development gaps.
El-Said pointed out that the development plan seeks to advance development efforts following the components, characteristics, and priorities of each region, and in this regard, spatial development efforts were concerned with achieving integrated rural development to narrow the income gap and limit migration to urban areas.
Regarding the Citizen's Investment Plan in Minya Governorate, El-Said explained that the number of development projects in the governorate reached 324 projects and that the value of public investments directed to Minya Governorate in the 2023/22 plan amounts to EGP 4.4 billion, an increase of 29% over the 2022/21 plan.
Concerning the sectoral distribution of targeted public investments in Minya Governorate in the 2023/22 plan, El-Said indicated that investments amounting to EGP 961.3 million were directed to the health sector, at a rate of 22%.
The higher education and scientific research sector also enjoys EGP 914.6 million or 21%.
Investments in the local development sector totaled EGP 876.5 million or 20%, the housing sector amounted to EGP 711.8 million or 16%, and the pre-university education sector contributed to EGP 308.9 million or 7%. As for other sectors, investments amount to EGP 581.6 million.
The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development report indicated that the number of centers targeted in the first phase of the Decent Life Initiative in Minya Governorate is 5 towns and the number of targeted villages is 192.
The beneficiary population is 2.5 million.
The report pointed out that many development projects implemented through the initiative achieve sustainable development goals. These include the construction of 8 residential buildings for vulnerable families, 30 social units, 32 agricultural services complexes, 33 ambulance points, 162 health units, and 2 central hospitals.
This is in addition to the construction of 1,484 classrooms, 116 schools, 9 family development centers, 35 drinking water stations, 192 sanitation projects, and 17 treatment plants.
Moreover, the report referred to the construction of 199 portable network towers to connect the optical fiber network, the construction of 54 youth centers, and 32 service complexes. Government, 79 post offices, and 36 police stations, in addition to establishing 192 electricity projects.
The report refers to the most significant development goals in the field of housing in Minya Governorate, according to plan 22/2023. These goals are represented by the allocation of EGP 334.9 million for drinking water and sanitation services.
The number of development projects in this sector has reached 51. In the field of local development, it is intended to implement 170 development projects, in addition to implementing 26 projects in the field of health.
