Gov’t allocates EGP 4.7 bn in public investments for Qena governorate in FY 22/23 plan: Minister of Planning

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development announced, in a report issued recently, the features of the Citizen’s Investment Plan for the Qena Governorate for fiscal year (FY) 2023/22.
The disclosure of the report comes within the framework of continuing to announce the Citizen Investment Plan in all governorates of the Egyptian Republic for the fourth year in a row, to educate citizens about the directions and priorities of the sustainable development plan for FY (2023/22), and its role in achieving "Egypt's Vision 2030".
H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, said that the sustainable development plan for the fiscal year 2023/22 pays special attention to spatial policies and programs to achieve convergence in living standards and incomes between regions by addressing existing development gaps.
The plan also seeks to advance development efforts following each region's components, characteristics, and priorities.
In this regard, spatial development efforts were concerned with achieving integrated rural development. This was done to narrow the income gap, limit migration flows to urban areas, and prioritize the development of the Sinai Peninsula and Upper Egypt governorates, according to El-Said.
El-Said added that these three directions are in agreement with the sustainable development strategy within the framework of Egypt's Vision 2030 - and the consolidation of the principles of human rights in enjoying a decent life based on justice and in a sustainable manner.
Regarding the citizen's investment plan in Qena Governorate, El-Said explained that the number of development projects in the governorate reaches 277 projects and that the value of public investments directed to Qena Governorate in the 2022/22-year plan amounts to EGP 4.7 billion.
Concerning the sectoral distribution of targeted public investments in Qena Governorate with the 2023/22 plan, El-Said indicated that investments worth EGP 1bn are directed to the local development sector, at a rate of 24%, and EGP 860m, or 18%, is allocated to the transportation sector.
Investments in the higher education and scientific research sector amounted to EGP 798.8 million or 17%, the housing sector amounted to EGP 754.4 million or 16%, and the pre-university education sector amounted to EGP 258.5 million or 6%.
As for the other sectors, investments amounted to EGP 882.3 million or 19%.
The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development report indicated that the number of targeted centers in the first phase of the Presidential (Decent Life) initiative in the Qena governorate is 5 towns, and the number of targeted villages in 86 villages.
The beneficiary population is 1.5 million.
The report draws attention to the many development projects implemented under the initiative. These projects include the construction of 39 residential buildings for vulnerable families, 38 social units, 19 agricultural services complexes, 33 ambulance points, 77 health units, and 2 central hospitals.
Moreover, the report indicated that 939 classrooms, 78 schools, 10 family development centers, 9 drinking water stations, 86 sanitation projects, and 8 treatment plants were established.
The report also noted that the plan seeks to construct 108 mobile network towers to connect the optical fiber network.
Through the report, 7 youth centers, and 19 government service facilities were established, along with 71 post offices, and 11 police stations. This is in addition to the establishment of 86 electricity projects
The report refers to the most significant development goals in the field of housing in Qena Governorate, according to plan 2023/22. These goals are represented by the direct allocation of EGP 458.3 million for drinking water and sanitation services.
The number of targeted development projects in this sector is 44, and in the field of local development, the number of development projects is 139.
