Planning Ministry issues the eighth issue of the "Citizen Follow-up in the Governorates" report

481 development projects in Qalyubia, for EGP 11.7 billion, in 7 sectors: says Hala El-Said
The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development issued the eighth issue of the “Citizen Follow-up in the Governorates” report during (18 / 2019- 19/2020) to Qalyubia Governorate, which includes an inventory of the projects that were fully completed during the same period and linking them to the sustainable development goals.
Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, indicated that 481 development projects had been completed, with a total investment cost of EGP 11.7 billion, in 7 sectors: education, health, electricity, housing, transportation, irrigation, and local development.
The report of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development stated that concerning the state’s efforts to achieve the second goal of the sustainable development goals: “Eradicating hunger, providing food security and improved nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture”, 9 projects in the water resources and irrigation sector have been completed, for EGP 22 million including the rehabilitation of canals with irrigation engineering (Toukh, Kafr Shukr, Benha), and the delivery of electricity to about 11 underground wells.
The ministry’s report pointed to the third goal: “Ensuring a healthy life and promoting well-being for all at all ages.” 5 projects have been completed for EGP 122 million, including the development of the Qaha Central Hospital (the first phase), and the development of the health unit in the village of Mit Halfa in the Qalioub center and the Kharkania village medical center in the Qanater al-Khayriya center and the establishment of a medical center and an ambulance point in al-Obour city.
Concerning the fourth goal of the sustainable development goals: “Ensure a quality education that is equitable and inclusive and promotes learning opportunities throughout life for all.” The report stated that 82 projects were completed in the pre-university education sector, for EGP 433.2 million, which resulted in the creation, replacement, and expansion of 1392 classes’ at all educational levels.
The comprehensive survey of local community characteristics, issued by The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), indicates an increase in the percentage of villages in which a governmental primary and preparatory school is available from 93.9% in 2015 to 100% in 2020.
Within the framework of achieving the sixth goal: “Ensure the availability of drinking water and sanitation for all and manage it sustainably”, 13 drinking water and sanitation projects have been implemented, for EGP 729 million, most notably the Syracuse water station (capacity 145,000 m3 / day), and the expansion of the station. Treatment of Toukh (capacity 14 000 m3 / day), and drainage of Al-Safa village, Kafr Jumaa, Zawyet Beltan, Izbat Arab Hawala, Rasheed, Qudusa, Al-Sa`ada, and Abu Sunna.
Concerning the progress made in achieving the seventh goal: “Ensuring universal access to modern, regular and sustainable energy services at an affordable cost,” the report indicated the completion of the implementation of 6 projects in the electricity and renewable energy sector, for EGP 29 million, including the expansion of the Kaha transformer station (added capacity). 25 MVA) and the expansion of Shebin El Qanater transformer station (40 MVA added capacity).
The implementation of 81 projects within the local development programs (electricity and lighting), for EGP 69 million, were also completed, resulting in the provision of about 93 000 lighting equipment (poles, transformers, tower cars, lenses, and lighters), and about 20.7 000 searchlights and light bulbs in all centers and cities of the province.
Regarding the ninth goal of the sustainable development goals: “Establishing resilient infrastructure, stimulating inclusive sustainable industrialization, and encouraging innovation,” the report pointed to the completion of the construction of the Shubra-Banha Free Road with a length of 40 km, and the paving of the entrances to the main villages with a length of 26.4 km.
79 projects within the local development programs (paving roads, bridges, and tunnels) were also completed, for EGP 360 million, which resulted in developing and raising the efficiency of roads and streets (paving, interlock tiles) with a length of 190 km, in addition to the construction and development of 15 bridges and tunnels.
In the same context, and concerning the eleventh goal of "making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable", 28.3 000 social housing units have been implemented and 64 projects within the local development programs (security, traffic, and firefighting, support to the needs of the community) have been completed for EGP 123 million.
Regarding the thirteenth goal of the sustainable development goals: “Taking urgent measures to combat climate change and its impacts,” the report indicated the completion of the implementation of 102 projects within the local development programs (improving the environment) for EGP 236 million, which resulted in covering canals and drains of 0.6 km long and the provision of more than 6 000 cleaning equipment and tools (garbage bins, cars, loaders, sweeping devices), and the development of 13 slaughterhouses in (Al-Qanater Al-Khayriya, Toukh, Qalioub, Kafr Shukr, Banha, Qaha, and Shebin Al-Qanater).
