15 May 2021

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, represented by the “Rowad 2030” project, in cooperation with the American University in Cairo (AUC) Business Incubator, announced the launch of a program to build the capacity of managers of business incubators and accelerators.

This is part of the partnership and support from the Drosos Foundation, to share experiences and improve the various support mechanisms to create diversified job opportunities and stimulate economic growth.

Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Hala El-Said said that the ministry, represented by the “Rowad 2030” project, supports business incubators and works to develop and support them.

El-Said pointed out that the project contributed to the establishment of 9 business incubators in the fields of artificial intelligence and tourism, in addition to the Egyptian-African incubator and the mini-factory.

El-Said pointed to the important role that these incubators play in supporting and embracing small and medium enterprises, supporting young people in their ideas, and providing them with the necessary support.

El-Said added that the current cooperation between the Ministry and AUC’s Business Incubator is aimed at maximizing the benefit of managers of business incubators and accelerators and entrepreneurship support institutions from the experience of AUC’s Business Incubator, which is considered the first university accelerator in Egypt.

El-Said noted that AUC’s Business Incubator has contributed effectively in accelerating more than 200 startups and creating more than 8,000 job opportunities.

El-Said explained that the program will start this May; it helps participants design and creates new business incubators and develops existing business incubators and accelerators.

On her part, Dr. Ghada Khalil, Executive Director of the “Rowad 2030” project, indicated that the training program includes three basic units that include the most important tools and methods for designing business incubators and accelerators.
Khalil added that the cooperation comes within the framework of the activities of the “Rowad 2030” project, especially the Pioneers of Meter, as the project is concerned with stimulating and enriching the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in Egypt through the development of an integrated system for entrepreneurship.

"Business accelerators and incubators have become essential programs to support start-ups and small and medium-sized companies, intending to stimulate economic growth, job creation, competitiveness, and youth engagement,” Khalil said.

Dr. Ayman Ismail, founding director of the American University Incubator, said that the incubator is working to enrich the entrepreneurial climate by supporting and training several institutions that support entrepreneurship within the framework of continuous cooperation with the Drosos Foundation.

The program contributes to the implementation of Egypt’s Vision 2030, which aims to make Egyptian society a producer of science, technology, and knowledge.
