Egypt’s NIGSD reviews goals, efforts of the training network for management institutes in Africa (Tanmia)

Main / Media / News / Egypt’s NIGSD reviews goals, efforts of the training network for management institutes in Africa (Tanmia)

14 May 2021

The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development, the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, reviewed recently in a report issued by the objectives and efforts of the training network for the Institutes of Administration in Africa (Tanmia) affiliated with the institute.

Dr. Sherifa El-Sherif, Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), said that an initiative to create an African network of management and training institutes was launched during the first African Forum on Governance and Development in April 2019.

This initiative comes in conjunction with Egypt's presidency of the African Union and works to consolidate Egyptian-African relations to serve as a unique platform that connects all African countries through training and management institutes, coordination, exchange of experiences and interaction between them, and the formation of effective partnerships, whether these institutes are governmental, non-governmental.

El-Sherif added that the network aims to exchange experiences in the field of training workers in the state’s administrative apparatus in the African continent and to activate and spread the principles of governance at the Egyptian and African levels. This network will also have its role in achieving sustainable development strategies, Egypt’s Vision 2030, and the African Agenda 2063: The Africa we want.

Concerning the network’s areas of interest, Dr. Hanan Rizk, Head of Tanmia Network, explained that these areas include training government agencies, governance, and sustainable development.NIGSD’s report stated that, since its inception, the network has succeeded in cooperating with many African countries and has provided many professional training programs in Cairo.

The report added that the training system has turned into a default system due to the spread of the Corona pandemic.

“Tanmia” network has also carried out many other activities to support the network’s marketing and strengthen its influence at the continental level, such as coordinating to sign a cooperation protocol with the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development (EAPD) (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) to organize a series of joint webinars targeting several participants from various African countries.
The protocol also seeks to organize some training courses proposed by the two sides on topics related to governance and sustainable development and to achieve the goals of Egypt’s Vision 2030, as well as the goals of the African Development Agenda 2063.

“Tanmia” network has also worked on a tripartite cooperation proposal with a national or international agency to transfer Egyptian expertise by organizing programs for the preparation of the professional trainer TOT, financing conferences, or introducing the best Egyptian practices in many areas of common interest.

The report pointed out that the network has sent cooperation proposals to African organizations such as “Tanmia”, the College of Civil Service in Mauritius, and the Kenya College of Government Administration, and new contact points for the network have been established in two African countries.

The network also signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Center for Global Governance and Development in December 2020.
