24 January 2020

“Informal employment in Africa accounts for about 80% of total employment, and the informal sector provides jobs for this large manpower and source of income, but it is usually low and under inappropriate working conditions,” El Said said
Egypt’s Institute of National planning (entity affiliated) to the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, organized recently the third session of young researchers seminar, held under the title: Africa, Education and the Prospects of Prosperity, as part of the Institute's scientific activities for the academic year 2019/2020.In this context, H.E. Dr. Hala El Said, minister of planning and economic development said that African countries possess many components and advantages that enable them to improve their competitive position and attract more investments.“Among the most important of these advantages and constituents: the size of the population of about 1.2 billion people, which is expected to double in 2050 to reach 2.4 billion people, making Africa a diversified and large market,” El Said explained.El Said added that the continent has a huge human wealth, but it is not utilizing it properly due to shortage of the required skills in the labor market, which leads to an increase in workers in the informal sector. She noted that the informal sector is characterized by low productivity, which in turn affects the level of the national income of the state and limits its ability to grow.“Egypt is now working on investing in human capital through developing education and health systems and providing specialized training programs that will raise the capabilities of workers and help them to find Decent and productive jobs,” El Said asserted. The seminar discussed a number of pillars represented in explaining several basic concepts such as education, prosperity, and the nature of the relationship between them. A Harvard University study discussed during the seminar showed the importance of education and its impact on growth.
