Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development issued recently a report entitled "Seven Years of Building" that tracks completed and ongoing development projects in the country during the period from July 2014 - June 2021.In this context, H.E. Dr. Hala El Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development said that Egypt pays significant attention to investment in national and development projects in all sectors to provide job opportunities for young people and decrease unemployment rates, thereby raising Egypt’s economic growth rates.El Said pointed out that the number of projects that have been either completed or are still ongoing since July 2014 until June 2021 is about 25,000, at a total cost of more than EGP 4 trillion.She noted that the period from July 2014 to December 2019 witnessed the completion of more than 16,000 development and service projects, at a total cost estimated at EGP 2.2 trillion, adding that 9000 projects are currently being implemented, at a total cost of EGP 2 trillion.With regard to Upper Egypt and the border governorates, El Said indicated that the number of completed and ongoing projects in Upper Egypt governorates amounts to 4446 projects, at a total cost of about EGP 296 billion, of which 2343 projects were completed, at a cost of about EGP 51 billion.On the top targeted sectors, the "Seven Years of Building" report indicated that the petroleum and mineral wealth sector tops the rest of the state’s sectors, with 326 projects, at a total cost of EGP 1.1 trillion, of which 97 projects were completed, at a cost of EGP 1 trillion, as well as other 229 projects are still under construction, at a cost of more than EGP 47 billion during the fiscal year 20/2021.Regarding the electricity and renewable energy sector, the report indicated that 538 projects have been completed, at a cost of EGP 387 billion, and 43 projects are being implemented, at a cost of more than EGP 88 billion. In the housing, utilities and slum development sector, 1426 projects have been completed, at a cost of about EGP 208 billion, and 3696 projects are being implemented, at a cost of EGP 830 billion.The report drew attention to the transportation sector projects, where 531 projects were completed, at a cost of about EGP 175 billion, and 146 projects are still under implementation, at a cost of EGP 478 billion.Moreover, the report highlighted that in the trade and industry sector, 146 projects were completed, at a cost of about EGP 29 billion.On the health and education sectors, the report included that 4,660 projects have been completed at a cost of EGP 46 billion, while the higher education and scientific research sector witnessed the completion of 200 projects at a cost of about EGP 9 billion.With regard to the irrigation and agricultural sectors, the report indicated that 1314 projects have been completed, at a total cost of about EGP 38 billion, while 338 projects are being implemented, at a cost of about EGP 75 billion.On the geographical distribution of completed and ongoing projects during the period from July 2018 to June 2021, the ministry ‘s report indicated that Port Said leads the rest of the governorates of Egypt, with a number of 270 projects, followed by Cairo, with a number of 1204 projects, then Giza with 685 projects.
