Egypt’s NIGSD Board of Trustees holds its first meeting after the decision of its new formation

The Board of Trustees of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD) held its first meeting after the decision of its new formation.
The meeting was headed by H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development; it witnessed the attendance of Dr. Sherifa El-Sherif, Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development, and members of the Board of Trustees.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Hala El-Said welcomed the members of the Board of Trustees, which was formed after the issuance of the Prime Minister's Decree No. 505 of 2021.During the meeting, El-Said indicated that the development of human resources has become an essential pillar for achieving a comprehensive future development, explaining that the human element has been able to prove that it is the main and effective element in all development plans in any country.El-Said added that NIGSD, since the Prime Minister’s decision was issued to reorganize it and rename it as “The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development.” It is entrusted with responsibilities for training, research, and advisory services to promote good governance practices to serve Egypt's Vision 2030.
El-Said said that the institute's vision is to become the leading center of excellence in providing consultancy, research, and training in the Middle East and North Africa region.She noted that that the institute seeks to enhance and develop Egypt's position in the field of governance and sustainable development through the provision of consultations, research, and training programs that seek to spread the culture, values , and practices of sustainability and activating the mechanisms of governance in Egypt.Dr. Hala El-Said also praised the institute’s approach to expanding training partnerships with the most prestigious regional and international institutes and institutions, intending to provide a distinguished set of training programs.During the meeting, Dr. Sharifa El-Sherif reviewed the Institute's achievements and activities during the recent period, noting that it is concerning empowering women in Egypt.“ Ninety women leaders were trained in Cairo governorate as part of the training program “Qualifying Women Leaders” in its first phase, and 125 women leaders representing the governorates of Cairo, Alexandria, Port Said, Minya, and Luxor were trained in the second phase of the same program,” El-Sherif explained.On the African level, El-Sherif explained that 100 African women representing 45 countries have been trained in the training program "Qualifying African Women Leaders" in its first stage and 112 African women representing 38 African countries have been trained in the same program in its second stage, in addition to holding some workshops.Sherif also indicated that some awareness-raising initiatives on sustainable development and Egypt Vision 2030 were held with the participation of members of the government, the private sector, and civil society, and 6 community dialogue sessions on the “Citizen Charter” for the various sectors were held for more than 200 participants.
On the "Be an Ambassador" initiative, El-Sherif said that the first phase of the initiative was launched to train 1000 young men and women from the age of 18-35 from Egyptian scouts and universities to enable them to become TOT certified trainers from the institute to spread awareness about sustainable development, pointing to the training of 250 young men and women during the phase.Concerning the Governance Observatory, El-Sherif explained that the observatory aims to support good governance practices for sustainable development, pointing to the establishment of a strong network and dialogue between civil society, the private sector, and the government to encourage dialogue between multiple stakeholders, and to monitor, review and report on multiple governance indicators at levels. In addition to publishing an annual report on Egypt’s ranks in governance indicators, with recommendations on how to progress in the ranking, and developing a national governance index.El-Sherif continued that the institute is working on preparing and launching the National Governance Index that is accredited at the international level, as it is through partnerships with various international institutions that objectivity and impartiality can be ensured in launching the index. “The National Governance Index aims to monitor the national performance in governance in addition to the various fields of sustainable development on the economic, environmental and social levels,” She said.El-Sherif explained that monitoring Egypt's ranking in international indicators is based on 18 different governance indicators issued by 12 international, regional, and local institutions and organizations.El-Sherif also mentioned the launch of the "Estidama" platform, http://estedama.gov.eg/, for digital education, which provides more than 50 programs in various fields of governance and sustainable development through interactive training in development and capacity building, in addition to launching the education platform ATINGI is designed specifically for African countries, in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), to improve vocational training through e-learning, noting that Egypt is the exclusive partner of the platform https://www.atingi.org/.
