PLANNING MINISTRY PARTICIPATES IN A WORKSHOP ON "VOLUNTARY NATIONAL REVIEWS"

Main / Media / News / PLANNING MINISTRY PARTICIPATES IN A WORKSHOP ON "VOLUNTARY NATIONAL REVIEWS"

15 April 2021

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, represented by Aya Nawar is in the context of the ongoing preparations for submitting the third voluntary report to Egypt.

The workshop was organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Affairs Committee (UNDESA), with the participation of representatives of developed countries with voluntary national reports for this year, representatives of the United Nations Statistics Division, and the regional committees of the United Nations Economic and Social Affairs Committee, including ESCWA.

The workshop aims to follow up the extent of achievement achieved by countries in preparing their voluntary national reports and provide technical support to them by reviewing the best past experiences, as well as exchanging experiences between different countries.

During the first session of the workshop moderated by Mrs. Marion Barthelemy, Director of the Office of International Government Support and Coordination for Sustainable Development (OISC) of UNDESA; Ms. Aya Nawar reviewed the work plan that Egypt adopted to prepare its third voluntary report, which began with analyzing the current situation as well as updating the data. Continuity was also emphasized, as Egypt built on its previous reports in 2016 and 2018.

Nawar pointed to the participatory process adopted by Egypt in preparing the report by holding a series of virtual community dialogue sessions with stakeholders, and to the challenges faced by the process of preparing the voluntary national report associated with the spread of the Corona pandemic.

Nawar also reviewed new reforms and policies, such as the localization of sustainable development goals at the governorate level as well as the structural reform program for the Egyptian economy, and the adoption of an evidence-based policy approach to be able to clearly define priorities within the framework of the labor contract.
