Egypt’s ministers of planning and transport discuss transport investment plan for FY 2020/2021

Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Hala El Said, held a meeting with the Minister of Transport Kamel El Wazir on Wednesday to discuss the investment plan of the Ministry of Transport and the necessary needs for the ministry’s work plan for the fiscal year 2020/2021.During the meeting, H.E. Minister of Planning, Dr. Hala El Said asserted that the transportation sector is one of the prominent sectors in the state’s development plan, noting that improvement in this sector can be felt by citizens, through the ongoing national projects for roads, bridges, subway lines and railways.El Said indicated that recently, Egypt was able to achieve a breakthrough in the field of infrastructure, especially in the services of the transport sector, adding that Egypt's ranking in the quality of roads also improved.“Egypt jumped 90 places according to the Global Competitiveness Report in the field of road quality, as it moved from the 118th place in 2014 to become the 28th place in 2019,” she explained.She further said that the investment plan of the Ministry of Transport for the fiscal year 2020/2020 is taking into account the completion of the projects under implementation while providing all possible capabilities that support the investment plan of the ministry.Meanwhile, the Minister of Transport Kamel El Wazir reviewed during the meeting the ministry's work plan during the fiscal year 20/2021, pointing out the importance of providing all the necessary funding to complete the projects that are being implemented first.He explained the importance of completing the 3rd phase of the national project for strategic roads, in addition to completing the main road projects between the governorates, as well as the projects of major hubs on the Nile and the upper bridges on the main roads.The Minister of Transport also presented the railway and subway projects that need funds for the fiscal year 2020/2021 plan to commit to implementation under the planned timetables.
