NIGSD holds the first meeting of the Egyptian Governance Indicators Working Group

Improving Egypt's position in governance indicators is one of NIGSD most important work priorities: Says Hala El-SaidThe National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, held the first meeting of the Egyptian Governance Indicators Working Group.In this context, Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD) emphasized that improving Egypt's position in governance indicators is one of the most important priorities of NIGSD work.El-Said pointed out that the first steps to achieve this are to follow up and analyze Egypt's current situation and its development in the various indicators of governance and competitiveness.El-Said explained that in this regard, the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development issued the second annual report to follow up Egypt's performance in international indicators, which includes Egypt's classification in 18 different governance indicators, issued by 12 international, regional, local institutions and organizations.
El-Said explained that the report aims to track changes in Egypt's position concerning various indicators, in addition to enhancing its global competitiveness and sustainability of its economic performance, as well as studying the reasons for the improvement or decline of Egypt's position in these indicators, in addition to shedding light on the efforts of the Egyptian state in the field of strengthening governance.On the National Governance Index, El-Said pointed out that it is currently being prepared in cooperation with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development represented by the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development and the Administrative Control Authority.For her part, Dr. Sherifa El-Sherif, Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), indicated that the National Governance Index aims to monitor the national performance in governance and prepare an annual report in this regard in addition to the various fields of sustainable development at the economic, environmental and social levels.El-Sherif explained that the proposed indicator relies on a variety of data sources in its measurement, intending to reflect a more neutral and objective picture of the current situation and the country's efforts to strengthen governance and the challenges it faces.She pointed out that it is an index with a scientific reference and is consistent in content with recognized international indicators methodologies such as Global Governance Indicators, Mo Ibrahim Index of African Governance, and Doing Business.Concerning the importance of establishing a national governance index, El-Sherif indicated that it consists in monitoring Egypt's performance in various areas of governance, in addition to disseminating national policies and achievements in the areas of sustainable development, as well as improving performance, spreading societal awareness, and improving good governance practices.Moreover, the establishment of the national governance index is highlighting efforts to be reflected in the international and regional indicators to classify Egypt, and identifying the strengths and weaknesses in Egypt's performance, and coming up with recommendations, which will contribute to improving Egypt's position in the index and other international indicators.
