Planning Ministry continues to hold meetings to follow up on SDGs implementation

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development held recently a meeting for members of the Technical Secretariat of the National Committee to follow up the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, chaired by Dr. Ahmed Kamali, Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development.Dr. Ahmed Kamali, Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development, reviewed during the meeting the executive status of the third national voluntary report, which Egypt is participating in the high-level political forum 2021.Where Kamali reviewed the work plan and future steps and followed up on the data and initiatives required of ministries and agencies.Kamali pointed out that the preparation of the second and third voluntary reports came according to a participatory approach, in which some consultations will be held in cooperation with international organizations, the private sector, and civil society.Kamali stressed the importance of the participation of all concerned parties in an effective manner, as the voluntary report is not a government report but a state report to follow up on the implementation of the sustainable development goals.Regarding the content of the proposed report, Kamali pointed out that the report focuses on what has been achieved from the international goals and indicators for sustainable development, with a focus on the challenges facing countries associated with the Corona pandemic, as well as the ability of countries to withstand shocks.Kamali added that the report that is currently being prepared will be linked to the report previously submitted by Egypt, and the report will also contain some messages related to the direction towards achieving the sustainable development goals within the framework of Egypt's policies, as well as the supportive measures taken by Egypt to implement the sustainable development goals and development in general.Kamali stressed the importance of including the localization of the sustainable development goals, which Egypt is proud to implement, explaining that a side event will be prepared as part of the participation activities in the high-level political forum in this regardKamali added that the process of resettlement comes as a directive from the state, as Egypt is one of the leading countries in the localization of the sustainable development goals, explaining that the report will focus on the process of resettlement in its various forms, to be presented to the international community.
Kamali explained that the policies set in Egypt depend on the evidence resulting from measuring the impact by using economic models and data from many agencies to measure the impact of those policies and adopting evidence-based policies that can improve the development conditions of Egypt.Kamali stressed the importance of Egypt's ability to overcome crises and absorb shocks, adding that the report will focus in this regard on the economic reform program and its role in strengthening the Egyptian economy and society, in addition to the sectorial reforms that Egypt will soon launch to bring about a qualitative leap and real structural reform in the Egyptian economy.
Dr. Ahmed Kamali added that the content of the proposed report will also include the methodology for the report and the calculation of indicators in addition to the achievement in the goals and indicators, and Egypt's position in comparison to other countries.The content of the report will also include the challenges and priorities that Egypt has set for the next stage, while linking them to the challenges mentioned in the 2018 report, including governance, data, and financing, stressing the concern for sustainability and continuity in the presentation of the reports.Kamali confirmed that Egypt achieved success in 2018 in terms of holding side events on the sidelines of the high-level political forum at the United Nations, where Egypt was able to present two side events.For her part, Dr. Mona Essam reviewed the timetable to be committed to submitting the national voluntary report, which will start next May until the voluntary report is submitted in July within the activities of the high-level political forum.
