Applications Open Tomorrow for the Sustainable Innovation Lab project

The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD) - the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development - announced the opening of the film industry and technology hackathon, the first event of the Sustainable Innovation Lab project.Applications for the project will open on Sunday in cooperation with the Business Incubator of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University, the United Nations Development Program, and the Egyptian Exporters Association.Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development said that the Sustainable Innovation Lab project is the first of its kind in the Middle East and Africa.The project aims to work to support and develop innovations that come within the framework of achieving sustainable development goals.El-Said pointed out that the project includes four laboratories: green economy, digital transformation, and creative economy, and government innovations.El-Said emphasized that the project aims to provide technical support by providing laboratories for the manufacture of prototypes of these projects and helping them to test and verify these models using manufacturing technology.In addition to integrating the work outputs of these emerging companies graduated from the laboratory into global value chains by raising the export capabilities of these companies.For her part, Dr. Sherif El-Sherif, Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development, asserted that the project comes within the framework of the "Be an Ambassador" initiative launched by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development to spread the idea of sustainable development among Egyptian youth in the age group of 18-35 years.El-Sherif indicated that the project contributed to completing the cycle between the outputs of the "Be an Ambassador" initiative, then converting these ideas into innovative projects aimed at achieving those goals through the various activities provided under the umbrella of each laboratory, including incubation activities, business accelerators and consulting services.El-Sherif explained that starting tomorrow, Sunday, March 28, for 10 days, the door will be opened for progress in the first activities of the Sustainable Innovation Lab and represented by the Hackathon of the Cinema Industry and Technology of the Creative Economy Lab.The Hackathon activities will be launched on April 10 for 3 days.El-Sherif added that the hackathon aims to contribute to raising the efficiency of young entrepreneurs interested in the film industry and technology and to support their projects, to advance the film industry, which is one of the most important Egyptian creative industries.She noted that the hackathon works within the framework of achieving four of the sustainable development goals related to economic growth, decent work, reducing inequalities, industry and innovation, and gender equality.

The participants must be students and graduates of film institutes, the Academy of Arts, colleges of engineering, departments of architecture and computer engineering, in addition to the faculties of fine and applied arts, and that the age of the participant ranges from 20 to 35 years, provided that he has practical / or academic experience in the field Film industry, production, and technology, also may be presented as a team.
