Egypt’s NIGSD, Hanns Seidel Foundation launch storytelling series for kids on UN SDGs

The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), the training arm of the Ministry of Planning & Economic Development, launched on Tuesday a storytelling series entitled (Salah, Omnia & Development Goals) at the Bibliotheca Alexandria.
The storytelling series is dedicated to raising children's awareness of the SDGs and sustainable development goals.
The aforementioned storytelling series are being launched in cooperation with the German Hanns Seidel Foundation, and author Samah Abu Bakr Ezzat, who is a novelist in child literature.
The storytelling series aims to transform the 17 UN SDGs into 17 short stories for children ages 8-12.
The main goal behind such a storytelling series is to simplify the concepts of the 17 UN SDGs and shed light on their importance.
During the launch ceremony, Dr.Sherifa El-Sherif who is acting as the executive director of NIGSD said that the storytelling series is considered the first in the MENA region.
She further stressed that the aforementioned storytelling series would benefit Egyptian and Arabic-speaking African children.
Dr. Sherifa Sherif pointed out that the training programs offered by NIGSD target all sectors of civil society, the private sector, and workers in the administrative apparatus of the state.
She further clarified that over the past 2 years, 45,000 individuals have been employed by different states' administrative apparatus
She noted that NIGSD initiatives focus more on sustainable development, like the "Be an Ambassador" initiative.
The “Be An Ambassador” initiative aims to raise awareness about sustainable development by targeting youth from the age of 18 to 35 years of age.
NIGSD was able to train 2300 youngsters, according to Sherif.
Moreover, Sherif highlighted the Green Minds initiative that targets school children.
The Green Minds initiative is being implemented in 7 schools with a total of 1500 students, 5 schools in the Asmarat Neighborhood and 2 in Cairo.
For his part, Maged Gamea, Project Coordinator at the Hans Seidel Foundation, confirmed in his speech on behalf of Dr. Thomas Schama, Resident Representative of the Hans Seidel Foundation in Egypt, that the story collection aims to present an important series of booklets that aim to educate society, including schoolchildren, on important issues. In life.
