The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development held the third introductory symposium for the "Youth for Development" initiative at Galala University.
The symposium was held within the framework of a series of seminars and introductory visits held by the Ministry at the level of the universities of the Egyptian Republic.
The symposium witnessed the presence of Ambassador Hisham Badr, Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects at the Ministry, and Dr. Muhammad Alaa, General Supervisor of the Initiative at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Agreements and Head of the Human Rights Unit at the Ministry.
Ambassador Hisham Badr, Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, reviewed the criteria for the success of development projects, the achievements of the Smart Green Projects Initiative, and the initiative's contribution to COP27.
Ambassador Hisham Badr pointed out the importance of the initiative, explaining that it is an unprecedented initiative globally that focuses on implementation and application on the ground.
The initiative emphasizes the seriousness of dealing with the environmental dimension and climate change within the framework of achieving the goals of sustainable development and digital transformation. This is according to Badr.
The initiative also contributes to developing a map at the governorate level for green and smart projects. It links them to financing agencies and attracts the necessary investments for them from home and abroad.
On the most important gains of the initiative, Ambassador Hisham Badr confirmed that it is the localization of sustainable development goals, the preparation of a database for smart green projects at the governorate level, building the capabilities of cadres in the governorates, in addition to the smart partnership between local, national and international bodies.
For his part, Dr. Muhammad Alaa reviewed the Youth for Development initiative, the themes of awareness and education, competitions, requirements for preparing development projects, policy papers, and arbitration criteria for the academic year 2022-2023.
Alaa also dealt with the topic of introductory and educational meetings for students. This was done to introduce the strategies of the Egyptian state in the context of education, awareness, and training. This is one of the critical axes on which the human rights unit in the ministry is working in implementing the national strategy for human rights.
Dr. Mohamed Alaa talked about aspects of support provided by the ministry to the winning teams. He stressed that the initiative is an integral part of the mechanisms for consolidating human rights and the development plans and projects of the Egyptian state.
Alaa explained that the initiative aims to involve young people in policy-making and drafting development projects that help decision-makers achieve the state's strategic goals, thus contributing to developing youth skills and preparing a generation qualified for leadership and public work in various fields.
Dr. Mohamed Alaa praised the participation of Galala University in the second academic year of the initiative 2022-2023, which will have an impact on maximizing the benefit through the exchange of experiences and the dissemination of advanced scientific benefits between public and private universities.
For her part, Dr. Rehab Farraj, Director General of Human Capacity Development and Development at NIGSD, highlighted the role of the institute in developing the skills and capabilities of young people, by offering various packages of advanced training programs that contribute effectively to linking theories with reality and action.
Farraj emphasized the integration of the Youth for Development initiative with other development initiatives launched by NIGSD to enhance youth participation in the decision-making process by preparing policy papers and development projects that maximize the use of creative youth visions.
The introductory symposium included several discussion sessions with students to exchange ideas and answer their questions. These sessions were part of some sessions that reviewed the goals of the Youth for Development initiative and the importance of training programs in linking theories with practical application.
