Gov’t allocates EGP 5,5 billion in investment for Sohag governorate in FY 22/23: Minister of Planning

Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development announced on Thursday the Citizen’s Investment Plan features for the Sohag Governorate for fiscal year (FY) 2022/23.
The ministry's announcement comes within the framework of continuing to reveal the citizen's investment plan in all governorates of the Egyptian Republic for the consecutive fourth to educate citizens about the directions and priorities of the sustainable development plan in FY22/23 and its role in achieving "Egypt's Vision 2030".
H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development, said that the sustainable development plan for fiscal year 2022/23 pays special attention to spatial policies and programs aimed at achieving convergence in living standards and incomes between regions by addressing existing development gaps.
The plan also aims to advance development efforts following each region's constituents, characteristics, and priorities. In this regard, spatial development efforts were followed to achieve integrated rural development to narrow the income gap and limit migration currents to urban areas.
The aforementioned spatial development efforts prioritize the Sinai Peninsula's development and Upper Egypt's governorates.
Regarding the citizen's investment plan in Sohag Governorate, El-Said explained that the number of development projects in the governorate reached 431 projects.
She further noted that the value of public investments directed to Sohag Governorate in the 2023/22 plan amounts to EGP 5.5 billion.
Concerning the sectoral distribution of targeted public investments in Sohag Governorate in the 2023/22 plan, El-Said indicated that investments amounting to EGP 2.3 billion were directed to the local development sector, at a rate of 41.4%.
El-Said pointed out that EGP 852 million were directed to the housing sector or 15.4%.
According to the ministry's report, investments in the higher education and scientific research sector amounted to EGP 635 million or 11.4 percent.
Through the Sohag FY 22/23 plan, the health sector’s finance in the governorate increased to EGP 464 million or 8.4 percent. In contrast, the transport sector amounted to EGP 408 million or 7.4 percent. As for other sectors, investments amounted to EGP 894 million or 16 percent. %..
The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development report indicated that the number of targeted centers in the first phase of the Presidential Decent Life initiative in Sohag governorate is 7 centers and the number of targeted villages is 181.
The beneficiary population is 2.8 million.
As part of the initiative, the report describes the many development projects that achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. These include the construction of 108 residential buildings for vulnerable families, 22 social units, 30 agricultural services complexes, 35 ambulance points, 179 health units, and 8 central hospitals.
It also established 1,601 classrooms, 108 schools, 10 family development centers, 18 drinking water stations, 181 sanitation projects, and 8 treatment plants, as well as the construction of 181 mobile network towers connecting the optical fiber network, the construction of 48 youth centers, 30 government service complexes, 158 post offices, 28 police stations, in addition to the establishment of 183 electricity projects.
The report discusses the most significant development goals in the field of housing in Sohag Governorate, in Plan 22/2023. These goals are represented by the allocation of EGP 466 million for drinking water and sanitation services.
A major development goal in local development is paving roads with about EGP 60 million, and strengthening electricity networks with EGP 65 million.
