Main / Media / News / Suez governorate receives EGP 14 Bn in public investments under FY 2022/23 plan: Minister of Planning

21 February 2023

Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development announced on Tuesday the Citizen's Investment Plan for Suez Governorate for the fiscal year 2023/22.

The announcement came within the government’s ongoing strategy to unveil the Citizen Investment Plan in all governorates of the Egyptian Republic for the fourth year in a row, to educate citizens about the directions and priorities of the sustainable development plan for the fiscal year (2023/22), and its role in achieving "Egypt's Vision 2030".

H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, asserted that the launch of the "Citizen Investment Plan" reflects the state's keenness to involve citizens in the efforts exerted to develop planning and follow-up systems.

El-Said pointed out that the launch of the Citizen Investment Plan contributes to addressing the development gaps between the different governorates, and the localization of UN SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), as well as achieving Goal 17: Revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.

El-Said added that all development plans adopted by the state aim to improve citizens’ quality of life noting that this will not be achieved without active community participation, in line with Egypt's Vision 2030.

El-Said explained that the Ministry of Planning has aimed at enhancing citizen participation in planning and follow-up through issuing reports on “citizen follow-up in the governorates” and launching the “Sharek (Participate) 2030” mobile application.

Concerning the Citizen's Investment Plan in the Suez Governorate, El-Said explained that the number of development projects in the governorate reached 178 projects and that the value of public investments directed to the Suez Governorate in the 2023/22 plan amounts to EGP 14 billion with an increase of 21.7% over the previous year's plan.

Regarding the sectoral distribution of targeted public investments in the Suez Governorate in the 2022/23 plan, the planning ministry’s report indicated directing investments worth EGP 8.5 billion to the oil sector, at a rate of 60.7%.

The transportation sector has been allocated EGP 2.1 billion.

Meanwhile, investments in the higher education and scientific research sector for FY 2022/23 in the Suez governorate reached EGP 872 million.

Through the FY 2022/23 Citizen Investment Plan for the Suez governorate, the  Suez Canal enjoys an amount of EGP 522 million, or 3.7%, while the health sector enjoys EGP 470 million, or 3.4%, and investments amounting to EGP 1.5 billion, or 10.7%, pertain to other sectors.

The report indicated that the most important targeted projects in the higher education and scientific research sector are the establishment of Galala University, the establishment of the University Hospital at Suez University, the establishment of the University City building at Suez University, in addition to the establishment of a central laboratory complex for the Faculty of Science.
