Gov’t allocates EGP 8 billion in investments for Assiut Governorate in FY22/23: Minister of Planning

In a report issued by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, it announced the features of the Citizen's Investment Plan for the Assiut Governorate for fiscal year (FY) 2022/23.
The ministry's announcement comes within the framework of continuing to reveal the citizen's investment plan in all governorates of the Egyptian Republic for the consecutive fourth to educate citizens about the directions and priorities of the sustainable development plan in FY22/23 and its role in achieving "Egypt's Vision 2030".
H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development, said that the sustainable development plan for the fiscal year 2022/23 pays special attention to spatial policies and programs aimed at achieving convergence in living standards and incomes between regions by addressing existing development gaps.
The plan also aims to advance development efforts following each region's constituents, characteristics, and priorities. In this regard, spatial development efforts were followed to achieve integrated rural development to narrow the income gap and limit migration currents to urban areas.
The aforementioned spatial development efforts prioritize the Sinai Peninsula's development and Upper Egypt's governorates.
Citizen's Investment Plan for the Assiut Governorate seeks to give strong development impetus to promising areas in the governorates. This will enable them to take advantage of existing opportunities and provide more job opportunities for young people.
El-Said added that these directions align with the data of the sustainable development strategy within the framework of Egypt's Vision 2030 as well as the consolidation of human rights toward a decent life based on justice and sustainability.
Regarding the citizen's investment plan in Assiut Governorate, El-Said explained that the number of development projects in the governorate reaches 405 projects and that the value of public investments directed to the Assiut Governorate in the 2023/22 plan amounts to EGP 8 billion.
Concerning the sectoral distribution of targeted public investments in the Assiut Governorate in the 2023/22 plan, El-Said indicated that investments worth EGP 3bn were directed to the oil sector, at a rate of 37.5%.
The higher education and scientific research sector received EGP 1 billion in investment, while the local development sector received EGP 982.2 million.
Through the same plan, the housing sector enjoys finance of EGP 781.9 million and the transport sector enjoys EGP 675 million. As for other sectors, investments amount to EGP 1.6 billion.
The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development report indicated that the number of targeted centers in the first phase of the presidential Decent Life (Haya Karima) initiative in the Assiut governorate is 7, and the number of targeted villages is 150, with a beneficiary population of 2.4 million.
El-Said drew attention to the many development projects implemented through the initiative that achieve the UN SDGs, including the establishment of 20 residential buildings for the most vulnerable families, 22 social units, 35 agricultural service complexes, 39 ambulance points, 118 health units, 4 central hospitals, as well as Constructing 1,226 classrooms, 107 schools, 14 family development centers, 42 drinking water stations, 149 sanitation projects, and 11 treatment plants.
The Decent Life initiative also established 149 mobile towers connected to the optical fiber network.
It also established 82 youth centers, 35 government services complexes, 94 post offices, 33 police stations, 18 markets, and 23 parking lots. In addition, it established 149 electricity projects.
The report indicated that the proposed Citizen's Investment Plan for the Assiut Governorate is allocating about EGP 528.4 million for drinking water and sanitation services.
In the field of higher education and scientific research, the most prominent projects are the establishment of Assiut Private University in New Assiut. Also, the completion of the buildings of the new Oncology Hospital, and the establishment of the University of Technology in New Assiut.
