17 February 2023

The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD) - the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development – through its Training Network for Management Institutes in Africa (Tanmia) held recently an intensive training course for African postgraduate students and administrative leaders enrolled in the Egyptian-Japanese University of Science and Technology (E-JUST).

The course comes within the framework of the Egyptian government's keenness to contribute effectively to sustainable development efforts on the African continent. It also represents a means to support Egyptian efforts to build African cadres who possess the capabilities necessary to achieve the ambitions and agenda of the continent in 2063.

Dr. Sherifa Sherif, Executive Director of NIGSD explained that the course represents the second installment. This is after the success achieved by the program in its first edition.

The first version was presented to employees of local administrations in African countries on August 31 and September 1, in Arabic and English languages, via the Zoom platform.

10 people with real superpowers from Egypt participated in the first version of the course.

It was agreed to present the second version of the training course in cooperation with the German Hanns Seidel Foundation under the title of (Performance Measurement Indicators towards Effective Governance in Africa).

Dr. Hanan Rizk, Director of the African Development Center and Director of the Training Network for Management Institutes in Africa (Tanmia) stated that the course, which was presented to students from 11 African countries, aims to introduce trainees to the importance of performance measurement indicators and performance management.

The course also aims to define strategic objectives and performance indicators, types of performance indicators, and sources for selecting performance indicators.

It is noteworthy that the course was presented in two shifts (morning & evening), to ensure interaction and participation in group exercises during training.

Graduate students participating in the training have a variety of scientific backgrounds, with particular expertise in space sciences and science applications, communications and information technology, engineering, petrochemicals, and energy. They represent the countries of Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya, Malawi, Egypt, South Sudan, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, and Tanzania.
