The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development holds an introductory symposium for the Youth for Development initiative at the Egyptian-Japanese University of Science and Technology. This comes as part of the ministry’s eagerness to raise awareness of the goals of the initiatives and to expand its coverage to include the different regions of the state in order to benefit from the ideas, creativity, and innovation of university students in the field of sustainable development of the Egyptian state.


it is important to note that the General Supervisor of the Initiative at the Ministry of Planning, Deputy Director of the General Department of International Relations and Agreements, and Head of the Human Rights Unit Dr. Mohamed Alaa, General Director of Human Capacity Development at the National Institute for Governance and Sustainability development Dr. Rehab Farrag, Assistant Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Universities Dr. Dalia Khalil, President of the Japanese University Dr. Amr Adly, the Initiative Coordinator at the University and Dean of Energy Resources, Environment, Chemistry and Petrochemical Engineering department at the Japanese University Dr. Mona Gamal El-Dine participated in the symposium.



During the symposium, Dr. Mohamed Alaa explained the different axes of awareness and education of the initiative, its competitions, the criteria for initiating developmental projects, policy papers, and the arbitration criteria for the academic year 2022-2023. Then, he confirmed that the initiative is an important component of the mechanism to establish human rights, as it aims to include youth in policy making, formulation of development projects that assist the decision makers to realize the strategic goals of the Egyptian state, and to convey the ideas of the youth to decision-makers which helps to include youth in the public like.


Dr. also pointed out that the ongoing work with the winning teams from last year in order to be heard by the decision-makers and enable them to apply their projects.


In accordance, Dr. Rehab Farrag highlighted the role of the national institution for governance and sustainable development in developing the talents, and the capabilities of the youth by offering them with a variety of advanced training programs that effectively participates in linking theory with professional reality, and successful applications. The thing that helps the youth to bring up applicable ideas and visions which help accelerate the pace of implementing the sustainable development process.


Furthermore, Dr. Dalia Khalil valued the participation of the Egyptian-Japanese University for Science and Technology in its second the academic year 2022-2023 which will have a great impact on spreading the benefit to other universities participating in the initiative from the point of experience sharing, dissemination of advanced scientific benefit between public universities, community colleges, and private universities.


On the other hand, Dr. Amr Adly praised the role that the youth initiative for development has on encouraging youth to innovate to formulate development projects to realize the Egyptian state’s goals and Egypt Vision 2030. Additionally, he had put a value on the efforts of the ministry of planning and economic development in different sectors to achieve complete and just sustainable development.

In addition, Dr. Mona Gamal El-Din reviewed the tasks that the the university has achieved in the framework of general participation in the second year of the initiative. Also, she praised the students’ demand for participating in the competition, along with the effective and applicable topics in the field of clean and green energy and sustainable environment development.


In the end, it is important to note that the symposium included discussion sessions between students that  highlighted the importance of training programs in connecting theories and practical supplication, and how to create and formulate policy papers for development projects.
