Ambassador Hisham Badr, the general coordinator of the National initiative for Smart Green Projects participated recently at a symposium entitled “The Main Focus is Us & Climate” where he reviewed the initiative’s main objectives.

The aforementioned symposium took place at the Cairo International Book Fair.

Badr said during the symposium that the initiative was launched under the auspice of H.E. President Abdel Farrah El-Sisi.

He further noted that Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, UN Climate Change High Level Champion for Egypt and UN Special Envoy on Financing 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda was the one who proposed the idea of the initiative to the President as part of Egypt's hosting of the COP27 climate conference.

Moreover, Ambassador Hisham Badr asserted that the initiative focuses more on implementation and development.

He noted that the initiative emphasizes the importance of dealing with the environmental dimension and climate change within the context of achieving SDGs and digital transformation by submitting projects that accomplish those goals.

The initiative also contributes to the creation of a governorate-level map of green and smart projects, connecting them to financing entities and attracting the necessary investments from both domestic and international sources, according to Badr.

The General Coordinator of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects Initiative explained that a unified platform has been developed to evaluate projects.

He noted that there is a set of criteria for evaluating smart green projects, including the green and the smart technological components, empowerment and equal opportunities, and replicability.

According to Ambassador Hisham Badr, the total number of advanced projects for the initiative's first cycle had reached 6,281, spread across its six large project categories.

On the initiative's main benefits, Ambassador Hisham Badr emphasised that localizing SDGs is on the top as well as preparing database for green & smart projects.
