Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development hosted recently an  academic delegation from the Omani National Defense College. 

The delegation arrived at the ministry’s headquarters to inspect the ministry’s units , monitor most important projects under implementation and recent planning mechanisms.

Dr. Jamil Helmy, assistant minister of planning and economic development and the general supervisor of the “Decent Life” presidential initiative at the ministry received the delegation with other officials from the ministry.

During the reception ceremony , Dr. Jamil Helmy showcased the work of the Ministry and the Government Action Program emanating from Egypt's Vision 2030. 

Helmy clarified that the Egypt’s 2030 vision has five strategic goals that the Egyptian state hopes to achieve. 

These goals are protecting Egypt’s national security and international relations, economic development, enhancing the

government’s performance, building the Egyptian citizen.

He further noted that the vision is working to improve the standard of living for the citizens in all basic infrastructure services, and raising the employment rate .

He also clarified that these are the current goals that the government is pursuing within the framework of the medium-term plan, taking into account achieving the objectives

of the Egypt Vision 2030. Conceding the main roles of the ministry , Dr. Jamil explained that the ministry is responsible for preparing various planning documents in collaboration

with all relevant ministries and units. Moreover, the ministry is assigned to manage the general investments of the state and all its projects. 

He also pointed out the efforts of the state and the reform that the government has achieved in order to direct the investments toward development-enhancing

projects.  Helmy who is also supervising the Presidential initiative of “Decent Life” said that a developmental equation

is being implemented to indicate the necessary investments for each governorate in order to ensure the just and equitable distribution of financial resources.  He also referred to the structural

reform program that the government launched.  A program that relies on three main sectors; the industry, agriculture,  communication, and information technology sectors. In the same context , Dr. Hemly presented the Hayah Karima project concerned with developing the Egyptian rural area.  This project is considered the biggest national project that the Egyptian state has put into action in its history .

On a different note , Dr. Mona Essam explained reasons behind updating Egypt’s 2030 Vision , noting that the vision is being updated in a participatory way in cooperation with local and international partners.

Moreover , Dr. Reham Rizk who is heading the Social Planning and Development Unit at the Egyptian Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, presented the role of the Egyptian Laboratory for Impact Measurement, explaining that the laboratory was launched in cooperation between the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and the Abdul Latif Jameel Laboratory for the Middle East and North Africa at the American University in Cairo.
