The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, represented by the Rowad 2030 project, held a workshop for some journalists about startups and their role in supporting economic development in Egypt, in the presence of Dr. Ghada Khalil, Director of Rowad 2030 (entrepreneurs 2030).
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Mohammad El-Okby, Media Advisor to the Minister of Planning and Economic Development, who explained during his speech that the workshop aims to raise the awareness of journalists of the importance of start-ups, the way these companies work, and the methods of using technology in them.
El-Okby stressed that the workshop would address the professional aspect of creating journalistic content about startups, and provide a great deal of information and awareness about entrepreneurship and the difference between a company that aims for profit and a company that aims for growth.
El-Okby referred to the role and importance of the Rowad 2030 project of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, explaining that this project is considered the governmental backer to support entrepreneurship in Egypt.
During the workshop, Dr. Ghada Khalil gave an introductory session on the Rowad 2030 project and its role in supporting and organizing the entrepreneurship environment.
She explained that the launch of the project by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development came as an affirmation of the importance of the role of youth in society, intending to spread the culture of entrepreneurship and the idea of self-employment among young people.
The project is based on four main pillars: education, business incubators, awareness, and support mechanisms for entrepreneurs.
Khalil highlighted the Start Your Future campaign, which was launched by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development in cooperation with the Ministry of Education. This campaign was launched to spread the ideas and concepts of entrepreneurship among school students.
Khalil explained that the project is currently implementing the campaign’s second phase. The campaign has been implemented in 286 public schools in Egypt, and 450,000 students have been trained.
Khalil indicated that many initiatives were launched to support entrepreneurs and sustain Egyptian companies. These included the Pioneers Capsules initiative, which was launched at the time of the spread of Coronavirus.
Khalil talked about the “One Million Entrepreneurs” initiative, which aims to qualify one million entrepreneurs by 2030 within the framework of the sustainable development strategy “Egypt Vision 2030”.
This campaign is a golden opportunity for hundreds of thousands of young people who want to enter entrepreneurship, according to Khalil.
Khalil stressed that the entrepreneur needs a stimulating environment to help him transform the idea into a real project that will create real job opportunities.
Khalil explained that the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development has established several business incubators, in various fields, some specialized and some general, including one in the field of artificial intelligence and another in the field of tourism, in addition to the Egyptian-African incubator as well as the Goodwill incubator.
Dr. Ghada Khalil stressed the importance of the business clinics initiative and the services currently available. This will increase the number of business clinics in the different governorates and improve the services provided through them to entrepreneurs.
Khalil explained that business clinics provide an appropriate environment that supports entrepreneurship through experts specialized in various fields, noting that the project cooperates with some strategic partners.
