The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development held a meeting headed by Dr. Ahmed Kamali, Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development, to discuss the preparation of the third voluntary report for Egypt 2021 within the framework of Egypt's participation in the high-level political forum for sustainable development at the United Nations for this year.
This came in the presence of Dr. Nada Masoud, the economic advisor to the Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Mona Essam, head of the Ministry's Sustainable Development Unit, and Dr. Reham Rizk, head of the modeling unit at the ministry.During the meeting, Dr. Ahmed Kamali stressed the importance of including the challenges facing the Egyptian state during the past two years since the last report submitted by Egypt in 2018 in the third edition of the voluntary report, including the global crisis of the Coronavirus, and the measures taken by the state to confront that challenge and its impact on achieving goals sustainable development.

Kamali stressed that the Egyptian government was quick to respond to the effects of the crisis, in addition to the impact of economic reform on facing the negative repercussions of the Corona epidemic.Kamali instructed the necessity of presenting the voluntary report for community dialogue, choosing the appropriate mechanism to present it to the community, and the public's participation in the preparation process and allowing them to express their views, within the framework of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development's keenness on public participation.Dr. Ahmed Kamali pointed out the importance of inviting the Technical Secretariat of the National Committee to Follow Up on the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals to convene to follow up on the preparation of the report, stressing the need for objectivity and transparency in preparing the report in preparation for presenting it to the international community. For her part, Dr. Mona Essam, Head of the Sustainable Development Unit, and the unit team presented a model of the most prominent messages and topics to be discussed in the third voluntary report, explaining that the third report will provide an objective overview of the progress made towards achieving sustainable development, in line with the content of the two reports submitted by Egypt in 2016 and 2018.The report included developments at the national, regional, and international levels and included a focus on the supportive policy environment represented in updating "Egypt Vision 2030", efforts to localize sustainable development goals at the governorate level, and structural reforms of the Egyptian economy. This is in the context of relying on evidence-based policies, as well as the importance of monitoring and analyzing the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic on achieving sustainable development goals. The attendees also discussed holding working sessions to present the first version of the report to stakeholders and decision-makers, representatives from the government, the private sector, civil society, and development partners. The meeting also discussed a possible version of the work agenda for Egypt's participation in the high-level political forum for sustainable development at the United Nations.
