H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, met recently with Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, to discuss many joint files.During the meeting, Dr. Hala El-Said reviewed the most critical files that the ministry is working on, noting the importance of the education file, which is witnessing at the current stage a significant development in the trend towards establishing more public, private, and technological universities, as well as several branches of international universities.
El-Said stressed that these universities include programs consistent with labor market trends at home and abroad.El-Said praised the future strategic vision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, pointing to aspects of cooperation between the Ministry of Planning and universities in the field of training and qualifying youth.El-Said drew attention to the "Youth for Development" initiative, which aims to raise university youth's awareness of the principles and goals of human and sustainable development and to link them to the state's public policies and development projects.El-Said also highlighted the "Pioneers 2030" project, which aims to train young people in entrepreneurial thought, and the "Be an Ambassador" initiative to spread the idea of sustainable development, all of which come within the framework of supporting youth and believing in developing their capabilities.Dr. Hala El-Said also referred to the Egypt Award for Gov't Excellence, which includes a special category for government colleges, and the national initiative for smart green projects, which aims to spread community awareness about the challenges of climate change and integrate all segments of society, including youth, in finding solutions to the challenges of environmental changes.The Minister of Planning affirmed that one of the main priorities of the state is to improve employability through a comprehensive development of the labor market.
El-Said indicated that the national program for structural reforms aims to raise the efficiency of the labor market, enhance its flexibility and effectiveness, and develop the education system, which is linked to the role of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.For his part, Dr. Ayman Ashour reviewed the vision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research towards the path of comprehensive development, indicating that the vision is based on seven main pillars, namely: integration, interdisciplinary, communication, active participation, sustainability, international reference, leadership, and creativity.Additionally, the vision emphasizes the need to build overlapping disciplines so that colleges are divided into a group of homogeneous sectors.Ashour pointed out that the future outlook of the labor market indicates that it may witness the domination of several major fields, which makes there a need for overlapping specialized fields that contribute to finding a graduate capable of facing the challenges of the times and dealing with them creatively and innovatively.The Minister of Higher Education stated that the upcoming specialized fields include: robotics, artificial intelligence, genomic medicine, big data, automation, the Internet of things, self-transportation, digital economy, space sector sciences, the nuclear energy sector, and others.The Minister of Higher Education indicated that the pillars of the ministry's vision also include achieving the function of communication between the elements of the educational system at several levels, whether it is related to the areas of the labor market, as well as international cooperation, with the development of institutional entities within universities, to achieve increased participation in scientific research frameworks and cooperation between universities.The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research confirmed that the axes of the Ministry's vision also include achieving "effective participation" in society so that education has an effective role in projects on the ground, in addition to the goal of "sustainability" to reach the maximum benefit from resources, while supporting cooperation and communication with international bodies.Concerning the educational and vocational path between the Ministries of Higher Education and the Ministries of Education and Technical Education, Dr. Ayman Ashour said there should be complete coordination between the two ministries so that the current system allows students to enroll in fields of education that correspond to their abilities and skills.
