14 January 2023

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development issued recently a report on the citizen's investment plan for Aswan Governorate 2022/2023. This report was issued within the framework of the governorate's National Day, which is celebrated on January 15 of each year.
H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, asserted the ministry's keenness on the participation of citizens in Aswan Governorate and all governorates in all stages of the development process, which begins with planning, follow-up, and impact assessment, and is working to take accelerated steps towards creating the appropriate environment to enhance development.
This is done by providing detailed data related to annual sustainable development plans, issuing periodic follow-up implementation reports, or proposing priority initiatives and projects within a comprehensive and integrated participatory approach to achieve the principle of "Leaving No One Behind".
El-Said explained that the objectives of the Citizen Plan in Aswan are to localize sustainable development goals, enhance transparency and accountability, activate community participation, and spread the culture of programs and performance.
El-Said said that the public investments directed to Aswan Governorate in the 2023/22 plan amount to EGP 9.5 billion, an increase of 17.3% over the 2022/21 plan, as it represents 2.3% of the distributed public investments, and about 321 development projects.
The report of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development reviewed the sectoral distribution of targeted public investments in the governorate, which are as follows: EGP 3.6 billion (38%) for the water resources and irrigation sector, EGP 2.1 billion (22%) for housing, EGP 831 million (9%) for transportation, EGP 720 million (8%) for higher education and scientific research, EGP 578.5 million (6%) for local development, in addition to EGP 1.7 billion (17%) for other sectors.
Regarding the "Decent Life" initiative in its first phase in Aswan, the Ministry of Planning's report indicated that the number of targeted centers reached 3, namely Edfu, Kom Ombo, and Nasr al-Nuba. The number of targeted villages is 102, and the number of beneficiaries is about 900,000.
The report mentioned the features of the sustainable development plan for fiscal year 2022/23 at the national level, pointing to work to expand programs to encourage self-employment and medium, small and micro enterprises.
Moreover, according to the report, the plan includes directing 7% of the public investments required to the governorates of Upper Egypt with a value of EGP 54 billion.
In addition to 71.5% for infrastructure development at a value of EGP 583 billion, in addition to 24.7% for human and social development at an amount of EGP 195 billion, in addition to 3.8% of investments directed to local development programs at a value of EGP 31.3 billion.
It is noteworthy that the Egypt Service Center was opened in Aswan last December within the framework of the cooperation agreement signed between Egypt and the UAE. The complex will be the first model of a mechanized service complex to provide government services at the highest level of quality.
The center aims to make it easier for citizens to save time by obtaining services from one place and achieve financial inclusion by promoting electronic payment methods.
