15 December 2022

Dr. Ahmed Kamali, Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development participated in the closing ceremony of the 16th International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and the International Day for Human Rights, which was organized by the Unit for Combating Violence against Women at Cairo University, in cooperation with the Human Rights Unit at the Ministry of Planning. The ceremony witnessed the presence of Dr. Muhammad Othman Al-Khosht, President of Cairo University, Dr. Amira Tawadros, Executive Director of the Unit for Combating Violence against Women and General Coordinator of the National Project for the Development of the Egyptian Family and Director of the Demographic Center, and Dr. Muhammad Alaa, Director of the Human Rights Unit at the Ministry of Planning and General Coordinator of the Youth for Development Initiative. During his speech, Dr. Ahmed Kamali said that this year Egypt celebrates National Human Rights Day on the threshold of the "New Republic" based on the values of citizenship, peace, stability, development, and the principles of social justice and human dignity for every citizen. Kamali stressed that the state's efforts in the field of human rights are based on a national vision that expresses the aspirations of the Egyptian people. This vision establishes a society based on the principle of equal opportunities, with full equality without discrimination.Kamali pointed out that Egypt was one of the first countries to contribute to drafting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.
Kamali explained that the National Human Rights Strategy, which was launched under the auspices of H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in September 2021, is the result of the unremitting efforts made by the Permanent Supreme Committee for Human Rights for more than a year.   Regarding Egypt's Vision 2030, Kamali indicated that it is based on comprehensive, sustainable, and balanced development concepts. This is done while guaranteeing the rights of current and future generations to use resources. The Deputy Minister of Planning reviewed the national project for the development of the Egyptian family, noting that it depends on improving the demographic characteristics of Egyptian society through an implementation plan that includes five main pillars: the pillar of economic empowerment of women, the pillar of service intervention, another pillar of cultural and awareness intervention and the pillar of digital transformation. Dr. Ahmed Kamali also referred to the Youth for Development initiative, which was launched by the Ministry of Planning at the beginning of the academic year 2021/2022. This initiative was in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research represented by the Supreme Council of Universities.
Kamali explained that it is the first initiative of its kind in terms of the real involvement of youth in the decision-making process by participating with innovative ideas in preparing policy papers and development projects that include creative youth visions supported by executive mechanisms for presentation to the executive authorities of the state. Kamali reviewed the stages of the initiative, pointing out that five public universities participated in the first academic year of the initiative 2021/2022 (Cairo - Ain Shams - Port Said - Mansoura - Beni Suef), and the participation circle was expanded to include 14 public, private and private universities in the academic year 2022. / 2023.In conclusion, Dr. Ahmed Kamali stressed the importance of the participatory approach adopted by the state and adopted by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development.   The Ministry attaches importance to cooperation with all development partners, including the concerned authorities, experts, and academics. This will enable us to contribute effectively to achieving comprehensive and sustainable development, promoting human development, and raising awareness of development issues.  The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women coincides with the Unite to End Violence Against Women campaign (November 25 - December 10), a 16-day initiative that concludes on International Human Rights Day.
