12 December 2022
Deputy Planning and Economic Development Minister Ahmed Kamali said on Monday the government is keen to boost cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) given that housing issues represent a top priority for Egypt's development policies.
During his participation in a symposium held by UNFPA, Kamali lauded the European Union's support of Egypt's National Population Strategy and National Project to Develop the Egyptian Family.
The Planning and Economic Development Ministry is keen on offering all data and demographic statistics across the country to plan the right policies and understand population-related matters, he added.
Kamali commended UNFPA's commitment to ensuring that the pursuit of sustainable development goals is being monitored. He also noted that Egypt has a wonderful history of cooperation with UNFPA.
Kamali affirmed the ministry's support for concluding the executive agreement between the United Nations Population Fund and the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development. This was in line with the national development goals outlined in the Egyptian Family Development Project and Egypt's Vision 2030.
Kamali discussed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the United Nations Population Fund and the Cairo Demographic Center. He explained that the ministry adopted the proposed memorandum of understanding with the Cairo Demographic Center, which comes within the framework of implementing the Egyptian Family Development Project.
Kamali added that a draft memorandum of understanding was proposed between the Fund and the Demographic Center in Cairo of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development. This was to enhance and provide a framework for cooperation and facilitate partnership in areas of common interest.
Kamali indicated his aspiration to cooperate with the United Nations Population Fund in Egypt in developing a comprehensive campaign for social norms and behavior change around the optimal size of the family, values, and customs related to social relations that affect family formation, reproduction, and gender roles.
Kamali touched on the importance of using the media and mobilizing society to raise awareness and expand participation among the target audiences. This comes within the framework of the cultural, awareness, and educational axis of the national project for the development of the Egyptian family.
