Dr. Sherifa Sharif, Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), participated recently in the workshop organized by Oxford University on "The Future of the Global Economy", through the (video conference) feature.Dr. Sherifa Sharif explained that the workshop aimed to exchange experiences between participants from different countries on several topics, including sustainable development. In particular, it was the social and environmental pillars and their relationship to governance. Discussions were also exchanged about the future of the global economy in light of crises and recent developments at the political and economic levels.During the workshop, Sherif indicated that Egypt will host the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), in Sharm El-Sheikh from November 7-18, in the presence of some world heads of state, and a wide international participation in the presence of more than 40,000 people representing about 190 countries. And dozens of international and regional organizations.Moreover, Sherif emphasized the importance of raising awareness about all climate-related issues, the difficulties that may arise in this regard, as well as the role of all citizens, the country's partners, in protecting the environment.NIGSD’s Executive Director pointed out the importance of having comprehensive policies that address the relationship between climate change and development. In addition, she suggested adopting a global vision in terms of governance and public policies.Sherif added that in light of the rapid developments the world is witnessing now, it is necessary to monitor technological progress. Due to its vital role in combating climate change.Sherif stressed the need to strengthen partnerships with the private sector as an economic imperative. This is due to its contribution to promoting technology transfer and exchanging experiences, as they play an imperative role in enhancing the adaptability of cities and countries.Sherif indicated that the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development had issued a dictionary on global warming. The dictionary includes terms used in the climate field, as well as significant international and local agreements and treaties that limit the impacts of climate change.Sherif explained that the dictionary comes in light of the Institute's awareness of the importance of climate change. It is also in response to international interest in the issue of climate change.
