Under the patronage of H.E. Minister of Planning and Economic Development: Planning Ministry's Human Rights Unit organizes an event to celebrate International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

The Human Rights Unit of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development organized an event to celebrate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning, and in cooperation with the British University in Egypt (BUE), represented by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. The event witnessed the presence of Dr. Muhammad Alaa, Head of the Human Rights Unit and Deputy Director of the Ministry’s International Cooperation Office, Dr. Amira Tawadros, Director of the Demographic Center, Dr. Shadia Fahim, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Human Sciences, and Dr. Wadouda Badran, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Political Science and Business Administration.During his speech, Dr. Mohamed Alaa emphasized the role of the Ministry of Planning in terms of protecting the rights of women and girls and working to empower them, referring to the National Human Rights Strategy, which pays attention to various aspects of human rights and is based on the belief that the Egyptian person is the focus and goal of development. Alaa stressed directing the ministry's efforts to achieve development from an inclusive perspective. This is done by achieving balanced regional development that ensures that all regions and governorates of Egypt benefit from the revenues and fruits of development. This represents one of the main pillars of Egypt's Vision 2030. In this context, the presidential initiative "Decent Life" has been launched, which aims to change the face of life for the better for more than half of Egypt's population. Villages and rural areas are targeted by this initiative.       Dr. Muhammad Alaa referred to a number of the objectives of the national strategy for women’s human rights, which the state’s investment plan for 2023/22 seeks to achieve, including the formulation of policies aimed at addressing negative cultural legacies that entrench discrimination against women, and the promotion of a gender-based planning approach to enhance women's empowerment.Alaa pointed out that the Ministry of Planning launched the "Gender-responsive Sustainable Development Plan Guide", which aims to accurately identify the needs of different social groups.    Alaa indicated that public investments have been directed to primary care units, women’s economic and social empowerment, and social protection for battered women.Dr. Amira Tawadros reviewed the national project for the development of the Egyptian family. She noted that it aims to improve demographic characteristics such as education, health, job opportunities, economic empowerment, and culture, in addition to controlling population growth rates.Tawadros drew attention to its five pillars represented by the economic empowerment of women, the service intervention axis by providing family planning methods and making them available for free, the cultural, media, and educational pillar to raise awareness and correct misconceptions related to the population issue, and the pillar of digital transformation to monitor, follow up and evaluate services provided to the Egyptian family.For her part, Dr. Shadia Fahim stressed the importance of deepening university youth's understanding of the importance of the role of women and girls and the mechanisms for their empowerment, praising the role of the Ministry of Planning in achieving justice in the distribution of public investments and working on equal opportunities in education and the labor market to ensure the achievement of social justice and inclusive growth, and investment in women. Egyptian.Dr. Nadia Zakhari reviewed the development of Egyptian women and girls’ status in education and scientific research. She noted the high rate of participation of women and girls in academic stages and scientific research.   Dr. Hayam Wahba, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Commerce, Ain Shams University, Dr. Amal Hamada, Head of the Women's Unit at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University, and Aisha Ghoneimi, Senior Economist and Programs and Partnerships Officer at the Human Rights Unit of the Ministry, participated in the event.The participating youth from the "Youth for Development" initiative reviewed their projects that dealt with the use of information technology in combating violence against women and establishing a civil organization to educate and empower Egyptian women.
