Planning Ministry reviews ‘Citizen Investment Plan’ in Upper Egypt governorates for FY 2020/21

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development issued a report reviewing the citizen's investment plan for the current year 2020/2021 in Upper Egypt governorates.The report stated that the sustainable development plan for the fiscal year 20/2021 attached great importance to the development of Upper Egypt governorates, intending to bring about real, tangible, and rapid development that would improve the quality of life and provide decent living opportunities.The report added that the spatial dimension is one of the main determinants of achieving comprehensive and sustainable development, in a way that ensures the achievement of balanced growth between the various regions of Egypt and the governorates.The report pointed out the development plan’s interest in policies and potential programs aimed at achieving convergence in living standards and incomes between regions by addressing development gaps and pushing development efforts in line with the components, characteristics, and priorities of each region.The report pointed out that potential development efforts focus on three things, namely giving advanced priority to the development of Upper Egypt governorates within the framework of a coherent and integrated development program, in addition to focusing on the rural areas most in need to narrow development gaps and reduce migration flows to urban areas.Moreover, the report noted that a strong development push will be dedicated to promising areas to exploit existing opportunities and provide more job opportunities for youth.The report pointed out that the volume of government investments directed to the governorates of Upper Egypt during 18 / 2019-20 / 2021 amounted to EGP 104 billion, with a growth rate of about 27%, compared to the three previous years.On the value of public investments directed and the number of development projects during the current year in each of the governorates of Upper Egypt, the report indicated that the number of development projects in Asyut governorate reaches 392 projects and that the value of public investments directed to the governorate in the 2021/2021 plan amounts to EGP 7.1 billion, an increase of 16% on the 2019/2020 plan.The report indicated that the number of development projects in the Luxor Governorate is 174 projects, and the value of public investments directed to the governorate in the 20/2021 plan is EGP 2.66 billion, an increase of 45.2% over the 2019/2020 plan.On the Fayoum governorate, the report indicated that the number of development projects in the governorate reaches 191 projects and that the value of public investments directed to the governorate in the 20/2021 plan is EGP 2.9 billion, an increase of 38% over the 2019/2020 plan.In the Minya governorate, the number of development projects reaches 327 projects, and the value of public investments directed to Minya governorate in the 2021/2021 plan is EGP 4.1 billion, an increase of 10.8% over the 2019/2020 plan.The report of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development indicated that the number of development projects in Beni Suef governorate reaches 290, and the value of public investments directed to the governorate in the 20/2021 plan is EGP 3.9 billion, an increase of 139% over the 2019/2020 plan. In the governorate of Qena, the number of development projects reaches 323, and the value of public investments directed to Qena governorate in the 20/2021 plan is EGP 6.6 billion, an increase of 59% over the 2019/2020 plan.About Aswan Governorate, the number of development projects in the governorate reaches 273 projects, and the value of public investments directed to the governorate in the 20/2021 plan amounts to EGP 6.9 billion, an increase of 73% over the 2019/2020 plan in 2021/2021, an amount of EGP 5.8 billion, an increase of 48.7% over the 19/2020 plan.
