Main / Media / News / Egypt’s NIGSD launches the 2nd edition of the African Women Leaders Program

19 February 2021

The current version will be implemented through virtual education technology and with a wider geographical coverage: says Hala El-Said.
The program comes within the framework of the Egyptian government's keenness to contribute effectively to development efforts on the African continent.

The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD) and the training arm of the Ministry of Planning are launching the second edition of the African Women’s Leaders Training Program for 100 African women leaders in senior management positions.
Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Institute confirmed that the follow-up to the launch of the training program in its second version stems from the Ministry and the Institute's keenness to support capacity building internally and regionally.
“It also stems from the intentions to provide support of the empowerment of African women in light of Egypt's important role in implementing the African Agenda 2063 and its supportive role in backing African brothers,” El-Said explained.

El-Said also drew attention to the Egyptian government's keenness to actively contribute to the development efforts in the African continent, as a priority since Egypt was the president of the African Union in 2019, and in support of the Egyptian efforts to invest in the human element and build African cadres as a basis for the progress and renaissance of the continent.El-Said added that the program will be implemented this year through virtual education technology and with wider geographical coverage due to the circumstances of the Corona pandemic, pointing to the launch of the program from next March 10 to the 28 of the same month.
For her part, Dr. Sherifa El-Sherif explained that it was agreed to implement the training program this year in cooperation with the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs arm that is tasked with supporting the efforts of African countries in implementing Africa's Agenda 2063.
El-Sherif added that the program includes 21 lectures on the topics of sustainable development, good governance, and developing managerial and leadership skills, in addition to 8 participant paragraphs from the four sectors represented by training and two days of interactive games.
El-Sherif noted that the program aims to participate in 100 women leaders in senior management positions from one of the following ministries or their affiliated bodies in sisterly African countries, such as the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Environment whose work relates to the sustainable development file, according to their sector, as well as researchers and trainers in research and training centers.
The African Women Leaders Program targets the age group of 40 to 55 years to participate.
Besides, several criteria have been defined for registration and obtaining the program, which is a commitment to attend 90% of the training as a minimum to obtain the certificate and to register and apply for the program by filling out the attached registration form, CV, and nomination letter from the employer that includes approval to give female candidates leave for workdays during the period Training.
The last date for receiving applications for the training has been set for March 1, 2021.The first version of the program was launched on the first of January 2020, with an invitation to 100 African women who hold high government positions from 35 African countries to attend the training camp in Cairo.
