05 February 2021

Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development attended recently the meeting of the Committee of Experts to Modernize Egypt’s Vision 2030, which includes in its membership some experts and specialists.
The Committee of Experts holds a weekly meeting to study the ideas of modernizing Egypt’s Vision 3020 and to continue editing the final version of the updated vision.Dr. Hala El-Said explained that this meeting comes as a continuation of the ministry's efforts in the process of modernizing Egypt Vision 2030, which includes dealing with local and international developments and the post-economic reform phase. This meeting discussed the challenges that the Corona pandemic imposed on Egypt, as well as the issue of green recovery, in addition to the important changes in the regional and international geopolitical map.El-Said stressed the importance of coherence and complementarity between the sectoral strategies of the various government agencies.“Egypt’s Vision 2030 is a vital and comprehensive file of the three dimensions of sustainable economic, social and environmental development; it represents the main strategic reference for the various development plans until 2030,” El-Said explained.

El-Said asserted that the first version of Egypt’s Vision 2030 was developed in 2015 and since that date, many new changes have occurred at the international and local levels, so it was necessary to update the vision.
El-Said pointed out that there are issues that must take up a greater space in Egypt's vision for the coming years, foremost of which is the population issue, the need to control population growth rates, the issue of water scarcity, and the economic and social implications that it entails as well as the need to direct investments and projects to overcome water scarcity and create alternative sources.El-Said affirmed that the vision agreed in its general objectives and principles with the UN sustainable development goals, which are the most comprehensive framework for sustainable development.El-Said pointed out that the consistency of the local goals with the UN Sustainable Development Goals facilitates the process of measurement and comparison internationally with what has been achieved in each of the sustainable development goals, starting from the elimination of hunger and poverty through to environmental and energy issues, reducing the gender gap and other UN goals.
The Minister of Planning and Economic Development referred to the research and academic studies prepared during the past year, in addition to seeking the assistance of specialized experts to develop an integrated vision to update the vision to fill the development gaps in it and to develop a realistic vision of its goals.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Ahmed Kamali, Deputy Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Mona Essam, Head of the Sustainable Development Unit, and the working group was chaired by Dr. Adela Ragab, Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University and Director of the Center for Economic and Financial Research and Studies.
