The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD) - the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development - held its fourth dialogue session on governance and sustainable development. This was done via zoom technology. The dialogue session covered a general introduction to governance, an introduction to an application of governance (anti-corruption), and a general introduction to sustainable development.Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of NIGSD referred to the Institute's tasks, which include drafting national indicators for governance, competitiveness, and sustainable development, issuing periodic national reports on them, and working to upgrade Egypt's international classification in international reports on governance and competitiveness.The institute’s tasks also include building and developing national cadres and providing advisory services and training for private enterprises.
"The institute is carrying out research activities, statistics, opinion polls and surveys to enhance national knowledge in the field of governance, competitiveness and sustainable development, in partnership with relevant national, regional and international research institutions,” El-Said said.For her part, Dr. Sherifa El-Sherif, Executive Director of NIGSD, explained that the fourth dialogue session included presenting the topic of governance in terms of its definition and origin as well as the relationship of governance with development, investment, and administrative reform. The session also discussed the issue of corruption and its economic implications and combating it, where a set of pillars were presented, namely the causes of corruption, the economic effects of corruption, Egypt's performance in corruption indicators, Egypt's efforts to combat corruption.
