Egypt's planning Ministry releases 'Citizen Investment Plan' of Port Said in FY 2020/21

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development issued a
report reviewing the features of the "citizen's investment plan" in
Port Said governorate for the fiscal year 20/2021, as part of the continuation
of the announcement of the citizen's plan in all governorates of Egypt for the
second year in a row.
Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development,
said that the medium-term sustainable development plan attaches great
importance to spatial justice, in health, education, and the use of economic
resources and others, which represents a positive impact on society from the
perspective of cohesion, stability, and sustainable inclusive growth, as well
as achieving comprehensive and balanced development between the various regions
and governorates of Egypt.
El-Said explained that the launch of the “Citizen Plan”
comes within the framework of the continuous keenness to link the planning
process with Egypt's Vision 2030, the localization of sustainable development
goals, and a continuation of the participatory approach adopted by the Ministry
with all development partners.
On the citizen's investment plan in Port Said Governorate,
El-Said explained that the number of development projects in the governorate
reaches 151 projects and that the value of public investments directed to Port
Said governorate in the 20/2021 plan is EGP 18.3 billion, with an increase of
260% over the plan for the year 2019/2020, representing 7.1% Of the public
investments distributed.
El-Said pointed out that the growth rate in investments
financed by the public treasury and directed to Port Said governorate reaches
26%.
About the sectorial distribution of public investments
targeted in Port Said governorate in the 2021/2021 plan, El-Said indicated that
investments worth EGP 11.6 billion will be directed to the Suez Canal, at a
rate of 63.2%, and the housing sector is allocated investments worth EGP 4.4
billion, a rate of 24.2 The local development sector is allocated EGP 924.9
million, or 5%, in addition to directing EGP 650 million to the higher
education sector or 3.6%, in addition to directing EGP 194 million to the
irrigation sector at 1%, and EGP 541.3 million for other sectors, at a rate of
3%.
The report of the Ministry of Planning and Economic
Development indicated that the most important development goals in the housing
sector in Port Said governorate in the 2021/2021 plan are to direct about EGP
1.3 billion to drinking water and sanitation services, in addition to directing
about EGP 2.8 billion to the National Program for Social Housing in Port Said
Governorate.
The most important projects related to the development of
the Suez Canal, according to the report, are the construction of locomotives
and dredges, the development of launches for the service of navigation, the
construction and strengthening of sedimentation basins, the construction of new
cladding in the west and east of the canal, the renewal of the arsenals (Port
Said - Port Tawfiq) and the establishment of several workshops and docks.
Moreover, the most important projects include the repair of
marine units, the construction of western breakwaters and Sharkia, and the
development of the docks of Gouna launches on the eastern Port Said branch.
The “citizen plan" includes the most prominent features
of the sustainable development plan for the fiscal year 20/2021, at the
national level, and the most important economic indicators for each governorate
represented in the gross domestic product, the real growth rate, the
unemployment rate, the number of workers.
Also, it includes the value of public investments directed
to the governorate in the fiscal year 20/2021 plan, their distribution to
different sectors, and the number of projects under implementation in each
governorate.
