Main / Media / News / Egypt's Planning min. inaugurates “Solutions Day” in presence of PM

17 November 2022

Egypt’s Minister of Planning & Economic Development, Dr. Hala El-Said inaugurated Thursday “Solutions Day” in the presence of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and with the participation of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Environment Minister Yasmin Fouad, and UN Climate Change High-Level Champion Mahmoud Mohieldin.

“Solutions Day” comes as part of COP 27 held in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el Sheikh.

In her word, El-Said said the event witnessed extended participation of the partners and leaders of the world.

El-Said pointed out the reports of the intentional government authority concerned with climate change which asserted the importance of finding bold, ambitious, and creative solutions to handle climate change and achieve the goals of the UN for climate change and the Paris Agreement.

The day will witness the launching of several important initiatives that include a group of sectors like garbage management, sustainable urban flexibility, and sustainable urban transport, she said.

She asserted the importance of boosting partnerships with the private sector as it contributes to boosting technological transformation and change of expertise.

“Solutions Day” tackles possible solutions to an array of climate change challenges ranging from holistic, cross-cutting solutions such as the greening of national budgets, sustainable cities, multilevel action, and sustainable transport, to sectoral solutions like waste management, and alternatives to plastic and green building. More specific solutions emanating from the private sector and start-ups bring creativity and innovation to the effort to deal with climate change.

It also takes up sustainable cities, green buildings, and resilient infrastructures that are all part of the paradigm shift envisaged in the critical decade and beyond, intending to achieve a transformative implementation building on agreed deliverables under different agreements and a further ambitious pledge to reduce climate impacts and consider the role of cities in combating climate change.
