On the sidelines of Cop 27 in Sharm El-Sheikh: Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development meets Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike

H. E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, met with Mrs. Yuriko Koike, Governor of the Japanese city of Tokyo. The meeting came on the sidelines of the activities of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 2022 (COP27). Egypt will host the climate summit in Sharm El Sheikh during the period from 7-18 November, in the presence of some heads of state and government, as well as more than 40,000 participants representing about 190 countries. During the meeting, Dr. Hala El-Said emphasized the strength of relations between Egypt and Japan and the breadth of cooperation areas between the two countries over the past years. El-Said also reviewed several projects and initiatives carried out by the Ministry of Planning, headed by the Smart Green Enterprise Initiative, which was supervised by the Ministry under the auspices of H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and won 18 projects that were hosted at the COP27 conference. El-Said emphasized that the initiative’s primary goal is to deepen and localize the concepts of sustainability and the green economy in all Egyptian governorates. El-Said highlighted the national program for structural reforms, its interest in the real Egyptian economy, focusing on the sectors of agriculture, industry, and information technology, the most notable accomplishments achieved in this program, and its positive effects on the Egyptian economy. The Minister of Planning and Economic Development also reviewed the projects that The Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE) and its sub-funds have accomplished and focused on building effective partnerships with the private sector and prioritizing green projects. At the meeting, the decent life project was also discussed.
The meeting also touched on the Egyptian family development project, which aims to improve the population's demographic characteristics. As for the Governor of Tokyo, Mrs. Yuriko Kokie, she congratulated the Egyptian government for the distinguished level at which the COP27 conference started. She noted her happiness to be in Egypt, given the clear progress towards successfully hosting a global conference that brings together all spectrums across the globe.
