Planning Ministry announces the features of "Citizen Investment Plan" in Aswan Governorate for FY 2020/21

Dr. Hala El-Said: Upper Egypt's development takes the highest priority as part of a coherent and integrated development program
EGP 6.9bn of public investments directed to Aswan Governorate in the 2020/21 plan, marking an increase of 73% from 2019/20 plan.
Aswan's 2020/21 development plan includes 273 projects across the governorate
EGP 345m is the volume of the investments of the Decent Life Initiative in Aswan Governorate, extending to 13 villages, with 60,800 beneficiaries
The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development announced the features of the "Citizen Investment Plan" in the Aswan Governorate for the fiscal year (FY) 2020/21. This comes as part of the continuation of announcing the citizen's plan in all Egyptian governorates for the second year in a row, intending to activate community participation and involve citizens in planning and follow-up.
Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said affirmed that the sustainable development plan for the FY 2020/21 attaches great importance to the development of the governorates of Upper Egypt. The plan aims is to bring about real, tangible and rapid development, which is reflected in the improvement of the quality of life and the availability of decent living opportunities. The plan ensures comprehensive and sustainable development, in a way that supports achieving balanced growth between various governorates.
She referred to the development plan’s interest in the potential policies and programs aimed at achieving convergence in living standards and income between different regions by addressing development gaps and advancing development efforts in line with the components, characteristics and priorities of each region.
Dr. El-Said indicated that the potential development efforts focus on three elements, namely giving priority to the development of Upper Egypt governorates within the framework of a coherent and integrated development program, focusing on the rural areas most in need to narrow the internal gap, and finally to reduce the currents of migration to urban areas.
The Minister indicated that this is a strong development push for promising areas to exploit existing opportunities and provide more job opportunities for youth.
Regarding the citizen's investment plan in Aswan Governorate, El-Said explained that the number of development projects in the governorate reached 273 projects, with EGP 6.9bn of public investments in FY 2020/21, marking an increase of 73% compared to FY 2019/20.
Aswan's public investment allocations represent 2.7% of distributed public investments, El-Said explained, pointing out that the growth rate in investments financed by the public treasury and directed to Aswan Governorate reached 31%.
Concerning the sectoral distribution of public investments targeted in Aswan governorate in the 2021/2021 plan, El-Said indicated that investments worth EGP 2.7bn will be directed to the housing sector and slum development representing 39.5% of the total.
Another EGP 1.2bn will be allocated to the irrigation sector (17.8%), while the transport sector investments recorded EGP 999.7m (14.5%), local development sector allocations stand at EGP 383m (5.5%), and the higher education sector will receive EGP 317m (4.6%).
The report of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development stated that the plan's most important development goals in the housing sector in Aswan Governorate are to direct about EGP 1.7bn to drinking water and sanitation services, in addition to directing EGP 181m to road networks.
Regarding the Decent Life initiative in Aswan governorate, the report indicated that the volume of the initiative's investments in the governorate amounts to EGP 345m, extending over 13 villages, with 60,800 beneficiaries.
