Roads and bridges projects contribute to creating new urban communities and advancing agricultural, industrial, tourism: says Hala El-Said

Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, agreed to boost the General Authority for Roads and Bridges plan for the fiscal year 2020/2021 by EGP 450 million, within the framework of the ministry's keenness to remove obstacles that may negatively affect the workflow of road and bridge projects that are being implemented by the Ministry of Transport.

El-Said stressed the importance of road and bridge projects, noting that they contribute to creating new urban communities and advancing agricultural, industrial, tourism, and other development.

Dr. Hala El-Said also indicated that the transport sector is one of the most important sectors in which to invest, in light of the national agenda for sustainable development Egypt's vision 2030.

“These projects led to the rise in Egypt's ranking according to the International Competitiveness Index in the field of roads and infrastructure quality, from 118th in 2014 to 28th in 2019,” She explained.

The Minister of Planning and Economic Development pointed out that the transport sector output represents an important input from production inputs in many commodity and service sectors, such as the trade, extractive, and manufacturing sectors.

El-Said added that from here comes the importance of improving the efficiency of this sector and enhancing its productivity because of its positive effects on the performance of other economic sectors and their competitiveness and market access.
