Planning Ministry approves EGP 200m for Electricity, Housing Ministries
21 January 2021
Egypt’s Minister of Planning and
Economic Development Hala El-Said has revealed an EGP 200m plan for fiscal year
(FY) 2020/21 for the Ministries of Electricity and Renewable Energy, and
Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities.
The plan will direct EGP 100m to each
ministry, in order to quickly complete the works of removing the facilities in
conflict with the development of a new Ring Road.
El-Said said that the financing approval
came as part of the political leadership’s interest in the national road
projects that are being implemented. She noted that it also illustrates the
interest in implementing the decisions issued by the Presidency of the Council
of Ministers regarding the development of the Ring Road.
The minister stressed that the state is
taking important steps to implement national road projects due to their utmost
importance for the benefit of Egyptian citizens. She also noted that the increase in government spending on the
country’s road systems has contributed to a significant reduction in traffic accident
rates.
El-Said said that her ministry is keen
to support and following up on the implementation of the national projects currently
under way.
She added that the development of the
Ring Road aims to raise the level of road services, by implementing expansion
works that will ensure the road can carry more vehicles.
Last October, El-Said agreed to
reinforce the Ministry of Transport’s plan for FY 2020/21, under the General
Authority for Roads, Bridges and Land Transport (GARBLT). It will be given EGP
1bn with which to complete the implementation phases of the project to develop
the Ring Road around Greater Cairo, and to ensure that it is completed
according to schedule.
