Ambassador Hisham Badr Conferred ‘The Order of the Rising Sun, Golden and Silver Star’ in Japan’s Embassy in Cairo

Ambassador Hisham Badr, General Coordinator of Egypt's Initiative for Smart Green Projects, received ‘The Order of the Rising Sun, Golden and Silver Star’ in a ceremony held by the Embassy of Japan in Cairo, in the presence of Ambassador Hiroshi Oka, Ambassador of Japan in Cairo.
‘The Order of the Rising Sun, Golden and Silver Star’ is a high-ranking decoration awarded by the Emperor of Japan to those who have achieved outstanding achievements in Japan.
During the award ceremony; Ambassador Hisham Badr said that it was a great honor for him to work at the Egyptian Embassy twice during his diplomatic career, noting that he had met Emperor Hiro Hito during his work at the embassy from 1985-1990.
He also referred to his accompanying - when he was Egypt's ambassador to Japan - Emperor Akihito on a visit to one of Egypt's largest exhibitions in Japan, the Aichi Expo in 2005.
Badr also reviewed some achievements that have been made between the two countries on the economic, social, and cultural levels, pointing to the establishment of the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) to be a pillar for the transfer of Japanese science and technology to the youth of Egypt, as well as the Grand Egyptian Museum project.
For his part, Oka Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan in Cairo said that the bilateral relations between Egypt and Japan enjoy a long history.
Oka pointed out that this year marks the 160th anniversary since the Japanese samurai delegation stopped in Egypt on their way to Europe in 1862, and the first centenary since Japan recognized the independence of Egypt in 1922.
The Japanese ambassador pointed out that Ambassador Hisham Badr throughout his work in Japan during the period from 1985 to 1990 as the second secretary, and then as Egypt's ambassador to Japan from 2003-2007 worked on consolidating, strengthening, expanding, and deepening relations between the two countries.
The Japanese ambassador referred to Badr's efforts in completing several pioneering projects that were established between the two countries, such as the Grand Egyptian Museum and the Egyptian-Japanese University of Science and Technology.
