National Initiative for Green Smart Projects General Co-ordinator meets UN Women representatives
11 October 2022
Ambassador Hisham Badr, General Coordinator of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects at the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, met with Mrs. Christine Arab, a representative of the United Nations Women in Egypt.
The meeting sought to discuss ways of cooperation to highlight the role of women and their participation in smart green projects within their category of the initiative.
During the meeting, Hisham Badr stressed that the women's category is one of the six most important categories of the initiative, which the state is interested in highlighting.
Badr explained that 1,045 projects were submitted for competition in the women's category, representing the governorates of the Republic.
Badr added that the governorates have already started announcing the winners to prepare for the presentation of projects at the national conference scheduled to be held on 3 November.
Badr indicated the initiative's interest in working and partnering with various international and international institutions to benefit from international expertise.
Badr pointed out that the importance of the initiative comes in light of Egypt's readiness to host the COP27 Conference of Parties, which Egypt is chairing at its twenty-seventh session in Sharm El-Sheikh.
Ambassador Hisham Badr also explained that the initiative seeks to encourage all groups to participate, especially women.
"This comes out of the state's interest in the participation and empowerment of women in all fields as essential partners in development," he said.
Badr stressed the state's keenness for women to have an active role in this initiative by presenting smart and green projects that serve women's issues, or to be themselves responsible for implementing or managing these projects, or have at least an equal percentage in the company's board of directors.
Ms. Christine, the representative of the United Nations Women in Egypt, praised the national efforts to launch women's initiatives on climate change and sustainability within the framework of the national initiative, and expressed UN Women's support for those efforts.
