Egypt Allocates EGP 11 billion for Sinai development Plan during Current FY2022/23: Planning Ministry

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development issued a report on the basic features of development programs for North and South Sinai governorates as well as the investments directed to the two governorates in the 2022/2023 plan.
H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, stressed that the development plan pays special attention to spatial policies and programs that aim to achieve convergence in living standards and incomes between regions by addressing existing development gaps.
El-Said explained that spatial development efforts focused on three directions, which included the trend towards achieving integrated rural development to narrow the internal gap and reduce migration flows to urban areas, and giving high priority to the development of the Sinai Peninsula and Upper Egypt governorates within the framework of a consistent and integrated development program, in addition to giving a strong development impetus For promising areas in the governorates to take advantage of existing opportunities and provide more job opportunities for young people.
On the main features of the development programs for North Sinai Governorate, with the plan for the year 22/2023 and the investments directed to the governorate, El-Said indicated that the total government investments in the 22/2023 plan for the development of North Sinai Governorate amounted to about EGP 5 billion, about 80% of which, or an estimated EGP billion, were funded from the Public Treasury.El-Said explained that the total government investments directed to the plan for the year 22/2023 to develop South Sinai Governorate amounted to about EGP 6.2 billion, of which 45.2% are financed by the public treasury, at a value of EGP 2.8 billion, adding that the education sector accounts for the largest percentage of the total investments about 32.4%, followed by the other services sector with 19.2%, then the water, agriculture, and land reclamation sectors with rates of 17.9% and 12.6%, respectively.The report of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development dealt with the most important development programs targeted to be implemented in North Sinai during the year of the plan, the most prominent of which are in the field of agriculture and land reclamation, establishing 8 agricultural clusters in North Sinai Governorate, and establishing the necessary infrastructure for planting 13 development clusters in the Sinai Peninsula.
Concerning projects in the field of other services and the water sector, the report referred to the most prominent projects represented in providing a suitable environment for work, providing the best services to citizens, and creating a suitable environment for the employees of the Directorate to improve the performance of the service provided to the public, providing suitable and appropriate units for low-income citizens.
Regarding education, transportation, storage, construction, and building projects, the report indicated that the most prominent projects in these sectors included equipping public education schools, rehabilitating technical education schools, developing and raising the efficiency of educational administrations, in addition to completing the establishment of 400 villages as the desert hinterland, completing the development and development of the city of Arish.
On the development programs targeted to be implemented in South Sinai during the year of the plan, the report indicated that the most prominent of these projects was the completion of the construction of seven agricultural clusters, the completion of drilling and equipping wells, the construction of dams to protect against the dangers of torrential rains, the replacement, and renewal of drinking water stations and networks in the centers of El-Tur, Sharm El-Sheikh, and Taba. Ras Sidr, raising the efficiency of drinking water plants and networks and constructing desalination plants in the cities of El-Tur, Ras Sidr, Abu Zenima, Dahab, and Nuweiba, constructing a 20,000 m3 southern water storage tank in Sharm El-Sheikh.
The report also referred to the completion of the construction of Dahab roads with a length of 59 km within the development programs targeted to be implemented in the governorate, raising the efficiency of the Sharm El Sheikh / Dahab road, completing the construction and paving of roads, to serve the Bedouin communities, link them, raising the standard of living and development, ease of movement between different sites.
The targeted development programs in the governorate, according to the report, also included the completion of the project to address the collapse of the Umm El-Sid plateau, the development, and upgrading of the efficiency of the mechanical campaign in Sharm El-Sheikh, the development, and restoration of archaeological sites
