NIGSD, UK Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education sign MoU to enhance co-operation to develop human capabilities

The National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD), the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, represented by Dr. Sherifa Sherif, Executive Director of NIGSD, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education in the United Kingdom, represented by Dr. Abu Bakr Jaber, Director of the College, for cooperation in the areas of governance, sustainable development and developing human capabilities.Following the signing of the memorandum of understanding, Dr. Sherifa Sherif pointed to the importance of training and capacity building, which is one of the main pillars for the success of any institution, by organizing a scheme aimed at providing workers with skills and capabilities related to the nature of their work, which helps improve performance.She pointed to the role played by NIGSD in empowering women in Egypt and African countries, pointing to the training programs carried out by the Institute in this regard, including the Egyptian Women Leaders Program.Sherif stressed that the signing of the memorandum of understanding with Al Maktoum College comes as a continuation of the institute’s approach to establishing partnerships with relevant local and international institutions to expand its expertise. She further explained that the areas of cooperation between NIGSD and Al Maktoum College, under the memorandum of understanding, are building and developing human capabilities, training, research and academic activities, advisory services, knowledge sharing, and professional networking.On his part, Dr. Abu Bakr Jaber explained that the Al Maktoum College of Higher Education is an academic institution recognized by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and the UK Quality Assurance Agency (QAA).Jaber added that the college focuses on lifelong learning through academic, technical, and customized programs, and the college is also actively working on educating the next generation of professionals and scholars, both nationally and internationally.
Jaber explained that the cooperation between the college and the institute within the framework of this memorandum will be through several activities, including holding training and workshops in areas of common interest and exchanging information on related activities that are organized by the two parties.
Meetings will also be held at intervals to review the progress of the activities being undertaken under the Memorandum of Understanding as well as to plan for future activities.
