Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, NIGSD announce an increase in Egypt's WGIs score

The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development, and the training arm of the ministry announced that the Worldwide Governance Aggregate Indicator (WGI) for Egypt issued by the World Bank Group in September 2022, which expresses the performance of governance in 2021, rose to 27.5 points.

H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development who is acting also as Chairperson of NIGSD’s Board of Trustees explained that The Worldwide Governance Indicators represents a set of indicators that measure the quality of governance for more than 200 countries.


 El-Said explained that these indicators are divided into six main dimensions: Political Stability and Absence of Violence/Terrorism, Rule of Law, Control of Corruption, Government effectiveness, Voice and Accountability, and Regulatory Quality.



El-Said pointed to the improvement of Egypt's performance in five of the six indicators, as the percentage rating of Egypt in the indicator of Political Stability and Absence of Violence/Terrorism increased from 11.79 points to 14.62 points.

 In the rule of law index from 42.31 to 45.19 points, the Control of Corruption index from 24.04 to 26.92 points, the Voice and Accountability index from 7.73 to 8.21 points, and Regulatory Quality from 31.25 to 34.62 points.


For her part, Dr. Sherifa Sharif, Executive Director of the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development, indicated that the institute issues an annual report to follow up on governance indicators that include about 20 indicators, following up that the global governance indicators use the six main indicators included in the governance indicators; as the only source of data.
