Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development meets UBER MENA regional director

H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, received Mr. Frans Hemstra, Uber's Regional Director for the Middle East and Africa, Mr. Youssef Abu Seif, General Manager of Uber Egypt, and Ahmed Ali, Uber's Government Relations Officer.
During the meeting, the Minister of Planning reviewed the most important features of the ministry's work, its areas of interest, and the most important projects it is working on.
El-Said indicated the state's interest in supporting and empowering the role of the Egyptian and foreign private sector, giving it more job opportunities, and expanding Egypt to achieve economic growth in all fields.
El-Said also affirmed the Egyptian state's interest in investing in the technological sectors, working to localize the latest technologies in the world, and giving Egyptian youth opportunities to learn the best software industry methods in major international universities.
El-Said also stressed that Egypt is moving strongly towards a green economy, explaining that Egypt's hosting of the COP 27 conference will be a milestone in raising awareness and achieving great growth rates for green projects in Egypt.
Dr. Hala El-Said reviewed the most important projects that the sovereign fund is working on in the fields of renewable energy, especially green hydrogen projects, which will put Egypt in a distinguished position as one of the most important centers of clean energy in the world and water desalination projects.
For his part, Mr. Frans Hemstra affirmed Uber's focus on sustainability, stressing that Egypt represents an important market for investment in it, especially in light of the efforts made by the state to attract foreign investments.
France emphasized Uber's global enthusiasm for the COP27 conference in Sharm el-Sheikh this year and highlighted Uber's commitment to becoming a zero-emissions mobility platform by 2040 globally, which has led to an increase in Uber's global desire to participate in the conference.
Hemstra reviewed the steps and products that Uber started and expanded its portfolio according to the needs of the Egyptian market.
He also explained that one of the company's most important products is the UberBus service, and this service was launched in Egypt, so Cairo became the first city in the world to provide the UberShuttle service.
Finally, France explained that the company has had 14 million riders using its platforms and about 700,000 drivers since the launch of the Uber service in Egypt in 2015.
The meeting was attended by Ayman Soliman, Executive Director of Egypt's Sovereign Fund, Ambassador Hazem Khairat, Director of the International Cooperation Office, Kamal Nasr, Assistant Minister for Technical Office Affairs, and Dr. Muhammad Al-Aqby, Media Adviser to the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development.
