Planning Minister approves EGP 236 million for Bahr Al-Baqar wastewater treatment plant

Dr. Hala El-Said:The Ministry is keen to provide the necessary support to realize the project under directives of the President of Egypt, to develop Sinai and invest in infrastructure- Bahr Al Baqar wastewater treatment plant is the largest in the world, as it is implemented with a capacity of 5 million m3 per day
Egypt’s Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Hala El-Said agreed to allocate EGP 236 million to support the plan of the National Authority for Drinking Water and Sewerage for the connection of electrical current to the Bahr Al-Baqar wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 5 million cubic meters/day. This comes as part of the plan for the current fiscal year 20/2021 and in light of the implementation of the directives of the President of Egypt.
El-Said explained that the Bahr Al Baqar wastewater treatment plant is the largest in the world, as it is being implemented with a capacity of 5 million m3 per day, and that it will also be used for reclamation and cultivation of about 330,000 feddans east of the Suez Canal in addition to the 70,000 feddans that are currently being cultivated.El-Said pointed out that the Bahr Al Baqar drainage water treatment plant comes as one of the components of the project to establish Bahr el Ba'ar drainage water system, which is one of the most important projects of the Sinai Peninsula Development Program.
El-Said indicated that the Ministry is keen to provide the necessary support for the implementation of the project, as the execution of the directives of the President of El-Sisi, to support efforts to develop Sinai, invest in infrastructure, and improve services provided to citizens.
She added that this falls within strategy aiming to optimally utilize water resources and reducing waste, to be used in increasing the agricultural area, especially in the Sinai Peninsula, in addition to establishing integrated agricultural development projects (agricultural, animal, and industrial production.The Bahr Al-Baqar drainage meanders for 190 km from South of Cairo through governorate of Qalyubia, Dakahlia to Sharqia, and from the governorate of Ismailia to the governorate of Port Said.
