Planning Minister allocates EGP 49 million to build a river marina in front of Mohamed Ali's palace

Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, agreed to approve an amount of EGP 49 million from the plan for the current FY 2020/2021 for the Supreme Council of Antiquities of the Ministry of Antiquities, for the construction of a river marina on the Corniche opposite Muhammad Ali Palace and a pedestrian bridge.

El-Said asserted the ministry’s keenness to provide the necessary support for national and historical projects, including that as well, following up that the accreditation came in implementation of the directives of Egypt’s President during the conference of the Grand Egyptian Museum, among which is the establishment of a river marina on the Corniche opposite the Muhammad Ali Palace in Shubra to help transport visitors and avoiding streets’ congestion.

El-Said explained that the project for the construction of the river marina falls under the main project "Restoration of Islamic and Coptic Antiquities," pointing to the interest that the state currently attaches to restoring historical facilities, as the amount was approved in light of the ongoing development work at Muhammad Ali Palace.

El-Said added that the project for the restoration of the Mohammed Ali Palace was allocated an amount of EGP 100 million and then strengthened with an amount of EGP 7 million so that the total amount approved for the project was EGP 12 million in the FY 2021/2020 plan.

 

 

It is worth noting that Presidential Decree No. (467) for the year 2020 came to re-allocate an area (1050 m3) for the benefit of the Supreme Council of Antiquities to be used in the construction of anchorage for boats on the Corniche, as a transfer from the lands designated for agricultural reclamation.
