Egypt’s NIGSD holds its first dialogue session in 2021 on governance and sustainable development

Egypt’s National Institute for Governance and Sustainable
Development (NIGSD) - the training arm of the Ministry of Planning and Economic
Development – held on Monday through Zoom its first dialogue session in 2021,
the session focused on governance and sustainable development.
The session included a general introduction to governance,
an introduction to an application of governance (anti-corruption), and a
general introduction to sustainable development.
Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic
Development and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of NIGSD explained that the
institute aims to facilitate procedures and develop rules governing dealing
with state institutions and its various agencies and to coordinate between
relevant stakeholders, whether at the central or local level, following the
standards of good governance.
She added that NIGSD is also working to monitor and follow
up Egypt's position in the indicators of governance, competitiveness, regional
and international sustainable development, and to develop a national strategy
and a national action plan to improve it in coordination with the various units
of the state's administrative apparatus.
For her part, Dr. Sharifa Sherif, Executive Director of
NIGSD indicated that the institute is holding awareness meetings on governance
and sustainable development.
These are periodic bi-monthly meetings that take place through (zoom) technology for all workers in the various sectors of the state's administrative apparatus, the public and private sector, and civil society, she added.
Dialogue sessions present several active practitioners in
the implementation of policies related to governance and sustainable
development.
Al-Sharif added that with the rapid changes taking place in
the world and the global economy; It has become important to rationally manage
economic systems, which requires following the foundations of global
governance, to achieve the goals of sustainable development.
