10 September 2022

H.E. Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, met with representatives of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), headed by Dr. Kerry Ann Jones, Deputy Secretary-General of the OECD, and Carlos Conde, Head of the Middle East and Africa Group in the OECD's Department of International Relations.

The meeting sought to discuss the executive steps of the country program for Egypt in cooperation with the organization and to discuss some issues of common interest. The meeting was attended by Dr. Ahmed Kamali, Deputy Minister of Planning, Dr. Nada Masoud, Economic Adviser to the Minister, and Ambassador Hazem Khairat, Director of the International Relations Office.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Hala El-Said welcomed the Deputy Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the accompanying delegation during their official visit to Egypt.

El-Said emphasized the depth of relations and constructive cooperation between Egypt and the organization, and that Egypt is always keen to benefit from the long experience of the organization and its member states, to support economic reform and comprehensive development steps taken by the Egyptian government in the previous period.

El-Said also expressed her appreciation for the mission's keenness to discuss some of Egypt's recent achievements and the progress made in implementing the country program for Egypt in cooperation with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

El-Said indicated that the country program was designed as an integrated three-year program that would allow Egypt to benefit from the experience of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in designing policies and implementing structural reforms, relying on a wide range of pillars represented in the five pillars of the program: public governance and anti-corruption.
El-Said added that a total of 35 projects will be implemented within the scope of these pillars, with more than 15 national entities benefiting from the country program.

El-Said pointed out that several projects have already started, which are projects related to enhancing Egypt's ability to measure digital transformation, and implementing the principles of artificial intelligence in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

El-Said referred to the electronic monitoring and evaluation platform that the Ministry of Planning is working on to follow up on the activities of projects carried out within the framework of the country program.

El-Said explained that all national authorities are being trained on how to use the platform.

During the meeting, El-Said reviewed the state's latest findings within the framework of the national program for structural reforms and investment in infrastructure.

She also referred to the Sovereign Fund of Egypt, which is the investment arm of the Egyptian government, and the role it plays in the framework of supporting partnerships with the private sector.

During the meeting, the attendees also discussed the date of the official launch of the country program for Egypt in cooperation with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
